Bradford manager Stuart McCall admits Eddie Johnson's persistent injury troubles were behind his decision to release the forward. The Bantams boss released 13 players on Tuesday and admitted the decision to include the 23-year-old, who has made 30 appearances and netted four goals this season, was a difficult call.
"Its tough when you know alot of the lads want to be here," McCall told the Telegraph and Argus.
"It went right down to the wire with Eddie. He's got terrific energy and a great engine and has enjoyed himself at the club. It was a touch and go situation with him at the start of the season but he had a stormer at Lincoln and was feeling his way into the position.
"Unfortunately he then got a disc problem in his back and missed two months- and he never came back the same player."
