Blackburn boss Mark Hughes has urged Benni McCarthy to remain patient as he looks to win his place in the team.McCarthy, who signed a new deal at Ewood Park earlier this month, has found himself playing second fiddle to Jason Roberts and Roque Santa Cruz in recent weeks.
Hughes has called on McCarthy to use the example of Roberts as he waits for the chance to reclaim his spot in the starting XI.
"Players want to play week in, week out but he understands the impact Jason has made in recent weeks," Hughes told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph.
"Jason had to be very patient and wait for his chance and in fairness, he's got an opportunity and taken it.
"Benni understands that and that happens in football so he hasn't got a problem with that.
"Jason has been very patient so Benni will have to be, but we all know the quality he has on offer and can produce, so I have no issue there at all."
McCarthy missed last weekend's win at Portsmouth with a hamstring injury, but Hughes is hopeful he will be fit for this weekend's clash with relegated Derby.
"We will check on him this week but we are hopeful that he will play a part in the matches we have left," added Hughes.
"I need everybody fit and well going into these last two games because I want as many options available to me as possible."
