Bristol Rovers boss Paul Trollope has vowed to be "ruthless" in his squad reshaping this summer following an "unacceptable" campaign this term. The Pirates, promoted via the League Two play-offs last season, were looking to mount another promotion challenge in August but are destined to finish below mid-table in their first season back in the third tier.
Trollope has already identified some of the players he would like to bring to the club, and sent out a stark warning to his current squad by insisting some of them will be making way to accommodate their arrival.
"This crop of players should be higher in League One and the way we have finished the season is unacceptable," said Trollope. "I am concerned about the lack of quality in some areas so we need to make sure in the summer that we are ruthless and that we push forward and don't stand still.
"A lot of the players have come up from League Two. Some have taken to League One and others haven't.
"We have identified a few players we would like to bring in, that we think will improve us in the right areas. A few players will be going out as well and maybe a few more than we thought might be leaving if the right players come in."
