History is on Liverpool's side as they travel to Chelsea for their Champions League second leg.
- Chelsea, who would reach their first European Cup or Champions League final simply by not conceding a goal, have a promising record of 12 clean sheets in their last 16 Champions League home games, including all the last four.
- Chelsea have not lost any of their previous eight European semi-final home games, winning five and drawing three - the 0-0 with Liverpool three years ago, a 2-2 draw with Monaco the previous year in the CL and a 1-1 with Real Mallorca in the 1999 Cup Winners Cup.
- In five previous European home games against fellow-English teams, Chelsea have conceded only one goal - against Arsenal in a 1-1 draw in the 2004 quarter-finals.
- Liverpool, who have to score to have a chance of reaching their third final in four years, have netted in nine of their last 10 Champions League away games. The only exception was against Chelsea, of all teams, last season.
- Liverpool are unbeaten in their last eight CL games in which they have scored 25 goals and conceded only five.
- Despite their excellent record of advancing to the final from 11 of their 14 European semi-finals, Liverpool have not scored an away goal in a semi-final since 1985 when they beat Panathinaikos 1-0 in Athens in the European Cup. They have failed to score in all four games since, including twice at Chelsea.
