Stockport manager Jim Gannon slammed referee Keith Woolmer as "very weak and incompetent" after his side were held to a 0-0 draw at Chester.
The point was enough for the Blues to secure their Football League status for another year and send Mansfield down but County missed out on the chance to move into fourth place in the table.
Chester keeper John Danby made a string of fine saves but the biggest talking point was the referee's decision not to give a penalty when Adam Proudlock appeared to have been fouled by Paul Linwood.
Gannon said: "We had to give Mansfield a fighting chance and we went for the win and were very unfortunate to be denied. There was only one team who wanted to win and we had some big decisions go against us."
On the decision not to give a penalty, he added: "You are going to get that sort of thing in a game like this but I thought he lost it in the first half.
"A draw was not enough for us to guarantee fourth place which is not now in our hands. I said to the lads at half-time that as long as we showed patience we would be OK and in the second half we looked a real threat."
