Sharks fly-half Frederic Michalak does not require knee surgery and he should be out of action for no more than three months, his agent has confirmed.
The France international (pictured) hyper-extended his left knee during his team's 25-10 defeat to the New South Wales Waratahs last Saturday.
Sharks management initially thought he had torn the anterior-cruciate ligament and could be out for six months.
"He had a scan on his knee that showed a sprain but he will not undergo surgery and should be out for two to three months," Dalila Essidiri told Reuters.
"He will stay for 10 to 15 more days in Toulouse and we will then see if he goes back (to South Africa). It will depend on what the Sharks want to do with him."
The 25-year-old's contract with the South African side was scheduled to end in June.
