Premier League - Bent may miss rest of season

Eurosport - Thu, 30 Apr 18:17:00 2009

Tottenham striker Darren Bent is facing an anxious wait to see if he will play again this season after suffering a medial ligament injury to his left knee.

FOOTBALL 2008-09 Premier LEague Tottenham Hotspur striker Darren Bent rues missed chance - 0

The 25-year-old picked up the complaint in the second half of last weekend's defeat at Manchester United and will wear a brace for a fortnight before specialists assess him again but could now miss their final push for European football.

Redknapp said: "Darren has had a knee problem that will keep him out for several weeks. He will not be around for a while.

"It is a blow for him because he has done well and scored goals. We need him and he needs to play. He has been in good form but what can you do?"

"There's a little group of us pushing for seventh. I'd like to do it. If we could do it I think it would be a good achievement to come from the bottom of the league to qualifying for Europe.

"I think it's something we'd all be pleased to do. We'll give it our best shot in the last few games and see what we can do."

  1. I dont know what we will do. Benty is lethal anywhere in the 6in area given 2 chances. He's a striker that only needs 6 or 7 sniffs of goal to score. And who can we rely on for ricochets if he's not playing? Actually we might have a chance of Europa if we can field 11 players for the last few games. Amazing how someone can score 17 times whilst spending the whole game hiding. Just imagine what we could achieve with a first rate striker. Hopefully we can convince someone like the toffee munchers to buy him. But with a name like Bent he would be better of as one of Wangers boys at the heameroids with the RRRRRRRs.

  7. Its hard 2 believe he's scored 17 goals yet appears so useless. It will be interesting to see if the ManUre game was his last in Spurs colours!

  12. I'd rather Pav than Bent. Yeah I know he's scored 17 goals. But still Pav will out-shine Bent if he gets enough games in.
