Carragher to make management debut

Thu 30 Apr, 03:50 PM

Jamie Carragher will get his first taste of football management when he appears in the dug-out for the Hillsborough memorial match at Anfield next month.

The Liverpool defender has made no secret of his ambition to become a manager when he retires from playing, with the Anfield hot-seat high on his wishlist.

Now Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish has given Carragher the chance to 'coach' an All-Stars side against a Liverpool Legends team in a charity match on May 14 to raise money for the Marina Dalglish Appeal to build a new radiotherapy unit at the University Hospital, Aintree.

Dalglish will manage the Legends, while Carragher will have the help of Phil Thompson and actor Ricky Tomlinson.

Dalglish said: "We will have a lot of the lads from 1989, plus some ex-Everton and Nottingham Forest players. It has not been difficult to get the players to come along. They've all been really accommodating. They know all about my wife Marina's charity and what we hope to achieve."

Dalglish will have Robbie Fowler, Jamie Redknapp, Steve McManaman, Gary McAllister and Don Hutchison involved, along with Alan Hansen, John Aldridge, Ian Rush, Peter Beardsley, Ronnie Whelan, Gary Gillespie, Jan Molby, Gary Ablett and Steve Staunton.
