Preston boss Alan Irvine has been left bitterly disappointed after the Football Association failed to rescind Lee Williamson's red card at Birmingham.

On-loan Watford midfielder Williamson begins a three-match suspension during Sunday's pivotal home clash with QPR, potentially ruling him out of the play-off semi-finals.

Williamson was dismissed following a clash with Blues midfielder Lee Bowyer, who was also shown a red card, but Irvine claimed the decision was extremely harsh.

Irvine said: "I think we are within our rights to get some answers about what has happened to Lee.

"I don't believe they will be looking at it again but I think we are entitled to some kind of explanation."
