Pulis urges winger to stay focused

Thu 30 Apr, 03:25 PM

Stoke midfielder Matthew Etherington faces his former club West Ham on Saturday with a reminder from his boss.

Manager Tony Pulis wants his January signing to focus on the job in hand and nothing else as his team aim to reach the magical 40-point mark.

Victory would almost certainly guarantee Stoke's survival in the top flight. Etherington has played his part since arriving from Upton Park and Pulis said: "It is always a big game when you play against a side you have just left. Matty will have his reasons to do well but he also has to play for us and the structure we work on."

Etherington says he is enjoying his new life in the Potteries.

"It was a difficult decision to leave West Ham because I have family and friends down there," he told the Stoke Sentinel. "But my girlfriend has moved up with me and I am happy here.

"It has definitely been the right decision for me at this time in my career. I have loved every minute of it, especially playing at the Britannia. You have to see and hear it to believe it. It is great to play in front of those fans, who have been marvellous to me."

  5. We haven't quite seen Matty at his best yet, let's hope he takes this opportunity with both hands and realises his potential to become a Stoke legend. My prediction for Saturday is for Fuller to make amends for his moment of madness at Upton Park, Stoke 2 - 0 WHU. Goarrrrrrn you Potters...
