Cheltenham boss Keith Downing is poised to make a move for midfielder Alex Russell as he prepares to strengthen his squad for next season.Russell, who was released by Championship play-off finalists Bristol City this week, spent the second half of last season on loan with the Robins.

And Downing is prepared to fight it out for his signature after the club secured their place in League One next season.

"Alex wants to keep his options open at this stage, which we have to respect, but I will be pursuing him and I'd like to sign him," the Robins boss told the Gloucestershire Echo.

Meanwhile, defender Michael Wylde looks set to sign for Blue Square Premier side Kidderminster.

Wylde, who was released by Cheltenham earlier this month, joined Harriers on loan last season and suitably impressed boss Mark Yates.
