Leeds manager Gary McAllister has paid tribute to veteran Alan Thompson and versatile player Darren Kenton, who both left the club this week.Thompson, 34, has retired after 17 years as a player with Bolton, Aston Villa and Celtic, while 29-year-old Kenton's short-term contract was not renewed.

McAllister told the club's official website: "Alan's a guy who's worked his way up through different levels, and played at the highest level.

"Even though he didn't play much during my time he did give a lot. He's a fantastic professional and I wish him all the best.

"Darren came in on loan at first and he was asked to play in two or three different positions. One thing you could be assured of is that he always gave his best.

"But, I'm looking for young Scotty Gardner to pressure Frazer (Richardson) next season and I've got Ben Parker back as well, and I want to leave the path open for the young players."
