FA Cup - Hiddink: Wembley win is unbelievable

Eurosport - Sat, 30 May 20:28:00 2009

Chelsea's departing manager Guus Hiddink said winning the FA Cup was one of his biggest achievements in the game.

Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink holds aloft the FA Cup, after his side beat Everton 2-1 at Wembley - 0

Hiddink's came back from a goal down to beat Everton 2-1 at Wembley, ending his Chelsea reign with the club's first trophy in two years.

"Again today, the team has shown once more that they react always and that's why I like to work with this team," Hiddink said.

"Of course [I will miss them], we talked a lot about this. It was not just an inbetween job.

"I loved it so much, I enjoyed so much working with big stars, but these big stars they knew exactly what it's all about,. I think they showed in the Premier League, in the Champions League and now today that they have a lot character.

"This is one of the biggest [achievements in my career], the Champions League final was a long time ago.

"But winning the FA Cup in the Mecca [Wembley] of world football, that's something you cannot believe."

  9. Nice parting gift to Guus - interesting to see chavs only lost to one team in the league ! Wonder who that was ?? LOL. They had too much for the toffees on the day, who after the goal hardly created a chance again, maybe Saha's header over was the best chance.

  12. Well done Chelsea, and Guus Hiddink. It should have been 3-1, as Malouda's shot at goal that hit the cross bar definitely went over the goal line, but it didn't make any difference to the result, the best team on the day won, it was a good game, and not many bad tackles, Thank you Chelsea and Everton.

  19. It was great to see Chelsea and Everton play in the FA Cup final, especially since these teams have great managers - David Moyes and Guus Hiddink. I think both of them deserved to win today, but realistically, you can not compare Chelsea's financial backing to Everton's. Guus is much more experienced in the game and he managed to get the best out of his star players in a short period of time. Otherwise, I am sure they would get beaten. Both teams showed great spirit and determination today, and this is because they have got managers who are able to create this kind of atmosphere inside their team. Hiddink will be greatly missed, and I also hope Moyes continues to do a great job at Everton, there is still a lot of potential in his squad.
