FA Cup - Moyes: Chelsea deserved to win

Eurosport - Sat, 30 May 18:06:00 2009

Everton manager David Moyes said Chelsea were deserved winners in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Everton went ahead through Louis Saha's early strike, but goals from Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard took Guus Hiddink's Chelsea to victory.

"I look back with a lot of pleasure in getting the team to the final," Moyes said. "Chelsea were the better team on the day, I can't argue with that

"Lampard is a big player who scored big goals and that's what he's done today. I thought we had our best spell after he scored, but the better team won.

"The margin was narrow in the score, but there were bigger margins on the pitch.

"Last year was the semi-finals, now the final, so hopefully we'll win something next season. The team's been progressing year on year, whether we won or lost this was progress."

  1. God forbid Moyes would go to Anfield, he belongs at the "Peoples Club", well done Chelsea on winning the FA cup it was a deserved win. Everton played a great game, one of the best cup finals in recent years. Gutted for Moyes, would have loved him to be on the winning side but it wasn't meant to be. Very proud of you Everton, ONCE A BLUE ALWAYS A BLUE !!

  4. firstly a very big thankyou to all the very generous posts about david moyes and everton, have supported them man and boy and have seen many changes over the years but this team and manager are something special and can see great things coming our way, hopefully we will meet again next year but with all our top players fit, then we will see a different game. one person who hasn't had the recognition he deserves is bill kenwright, he had the belief in david and has let him build a team (with very little funds) and has stood by him through the good and the bad, i wonder just how many more teams would have been better off by doing the same and standing by the manager they appointed. everton and all the staff from chairman to groundsman have made the blue half (and a lot of the red side) very proud today C.O.Y.B

  8. gkanzi, to you and all the africans that seem besotted with our prem teams! Nice as it is to have a following! Did you see that one killed four barca fans in nigeria? STUPID! Give us a break, Football is about skill tactics and passion. Not god! Drogba is a pain in the @rse! Even most chelsea fans acknowledge this! And stop this whole "FACT" rubbish! You lost and drew to UTD in the league this year "FACT" so what makes you think you'd of won the CL final?

  9. If only the MONEYMAN could still pressurize GUSS to keep watch on his team for another season, I am of the belief that Chelsea could have made it to the CL next season and also take the EPL. This is a true fact. I do not understand why Chelsea should be letting off good coaches, when they are on their way to taking charge of good trophies that matters in Europe this day. What ever it is that has been causing this problem, I bind and cast IT, In The Name of JESUS!!!!!!!!!!!! Secondly, I am not in support of Chelsea loosing DIDIER as he is and remains the king of that club till date. He has saved so many souls, healed so many wounds, healed so many hearts and in conclusion, I can him the (AGBARA OF CHELSEA). A good brother from Africa. May nothing happen to you and my other good brother (ESSIEN) the (STONE OF CHELSEA). NO INJURIES SHALL BEFALL YOU GUYS AGAIN!!! ATLEST, at lest this trophy has consoled we fans for this bad refereeing season that caused us the CL trophy. We could have beaten MANCHESTER UNITED 3-1. This is a true fact. Kudos to all you CHELSEA FANS, WE LOOK FORWARD TO HAVING A BETTER COACH NEXT SEASON, TILL THEN, LETS PRAY AND WATCH!!!!!!!!! (ONYEOMA AFRICA 00)!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

I'm a born and bred Mancunian and if you are an old fart like myself and can go back many years to the old four Divisions of English Football, there used to be a question in every Pub Quiz that would stump even the most Patriotic Englishman.....Question: "Name an English football club throughout all four Divisions that does not have a Scottish Born Player in its team"...Answer: "there wasn't one", as every English Football Team in all four Divisions had at least one Scottish Player in its ranks and if the question was reversed, the Answer was: no Scottish Football Club had an English Player in it's ranks, which at that time proved that Bonny Scotland produced some of the finest and most talented Football Players throughout Europe and the World.
I am a massive Hearts Fan (Gorgie-Boy) who over many years has had the great pleasure of spending many-many happy weekends up at Tynecastle watching my beloved Jambo's, but what most people down here south of the border don't understand is that Scottish football has a lot more to offer than just the two big Glasgow Football Clubs, Scottish football is fast and furious but most of all it is highly entertaining to watch.

  15. Well done Chelsea overall worthy winners of the FA Cup, but i'm absolutely gutted for Everton and especially David Moyes a true Gentleman and a very Gracious man in defeat but who has also worked wonders and miracles at Goodison Park this season with a very small squad.
This was one of the better FA Cup Finals with both teams deserving vast amounts of credit, so well done Chelsea for winning the Silverware and tons of credit to Everton not only for reaching the FA Cup Final but also for fighting against all the odds to finish fifth in the Premier League, all in all this has been a great season for David Moyes and everyone associated with Everton FC......"Well Done The Toffees".
