The youngest-ever Welsh side were always in control, but had the older statesman to thank as they claimed their first win of 2009.

Toshack handed debuts to Simon Church, Joe Allen and Andy King, but his fledgling side will need to be sharper to take something from their World Cup Qualifier in Azerbaijan on June 6th.

Aaron Ramsey will be one to watch in Baku and his early mazy run and back heel allowed Chris Gunter an early sight of goal, only for the Spurs man to blaze over.

Gareth Bale then battled through the Estonian left and his dangerous cross flashed across the goal without finding a Welsh foot.

However, it was the Estonians who came closest to opening the scoring on 20 minutes when the unmarked Alo Dupikov headed wide from inside the box.

The Welsh pressure was finally rewarded in controversial circumstances.

Skipper Joe Ledley fired in a snapshot that seemed to come off Alo Barengrub's chest but the referee awarded a penalty for handball.

Earnshaw cockily stepped up to send Artur Kotenko the wrong way.

Ledley almost doubled the advantage with a fierce drive that Kotenko did well to hold before Earnshaw dragged a shot wide from a good position just before the break.

A flurry of substitutions midway through the second period saw the most activity in a lacklustre period and Simon Church's debut was immediately marred with a yellow card a minute in.

The lively Ramsey was surprisingly taken off as Toshack continued to shuffle his pack, but it was Ledley who almost broke through again with a delicate chip that almost caught out Kotenko.

As even more substitutions followed, the game petered out and the Welsh faithful had little to cheer other than first caps for Allen and King as the clock ran down.

Bale had one last effort with a thumping shot that Kotenko again held safely, but the Welsh were good value for their first win of 2009 and will now look to carry the momentum forward to Azerbaijan next Saturday.
