Premier League - Terry rejects Makelele claims

Eurosport - Sat, 30 May 13:50:00 2009

Chelsea captain John Terry has strongly rejected claims made by former team-mate Claude Makelele that he was in any way responsible for Jose Mourinho's sacking in September 2007.

Makelele claims, in a new autobiography ('Claude Makelele - Tout Simplement') published in France on Saturday, that Mourinho and Terry fell out over playing time as the captain dealt with injury, and that Terry asked for a transfer.

"I thought Mourinho was practically untouchable, but a lot of players had complained about him, notably John Terry," Makelele wrote.

"When John Terry let his discontent be known to [chief executive Peter] Kenyon and asked him for an immediate transfer, (owner Roman) Abramovich reacted immediately: the departure of Terry was totally unimaginable, from the point of view of the supporters, the players or the club owners. Mourinho was packing his bags."

However, both Chelsea and Terry have strongly refuted Makelele's claims.

"This is not a true version of events with regards to the transfer request as there wasn't one," said a Chelsea spokesman.

"Nor was the captain responsible for the departure of Jose Mourinho, which was mutually agreed between Jose and the club."

A statement released through Terry's lawyers read: "It has been claimed that John was in some way involved with the removal of Jose Mourinho as manager. This is categorically untrue and there is no foundation in this allegation.

"We also confirm (should it even need confirming) that John has never asked to be transferred from Chelsea."

  7. John Terry is an old fashioned English centre half, good with his head, good tackler but slow (read donkey), if he played for a Northern team there is no way he would be playing for England let alone captain, if England qualify for South Africa he will wilt in the heat, and if they play in Jo'burg the elevation, he will be exposed by the speed and skill of the world class forwards on display there, I fear for England if he plays.

  12. It wouldn't surprise me if Makele's Remarks in his book are true. John Terry, does believe he is untouchable, his attitude, towards referee's, and opposition players, "Stink ". In the Champions League Semi's I felt that he was as much Responsible for the Verbal abuse of the referee, as Drogba and Co, and should have been Charged by EUAFA, for bringing the game into Disrepute. There were Rumours, that Jose was forced out, by Player Power, and i believe that this be true. If Ambramovic pulls out of Chelsea then we will see just, how big a club they really are EH.

  14. John Terry is an overrated player. Lots of people seem to easily forget and forgive him for missing a penalty that would have given Cheslea the Champions League cup last year. There has alos been lost of goals in this year where he was nowhere. So maybe there is some truth in whta Makalele wrote.
The question is why he would write these things if there was nothing true about it.
It's worth asking it out !

  16. Back to comment 7, he may have been nice to you face to face but there are plenty of other stories that state the flip side, especially on boozy nights out, not too mention the parking in a disabled bay incident. So all in al he may be a good player but it still doesnt stop him from being a t w a t.

  19. Is 'samueltjames' really John Terry in disguise? What a shame that Jose Mourinho has left Chelsea FC! Chelsea has won nothing since, and Jose Mourinho has in the most convincing manner just won the Series 'A' Italian league with his new team Inter Milan.
