Premier League - Terry rejects Makelele claims

Eurosport - Sat, 30 May 13:50:00 2009

Chelsea captain John Terry has strongly rejected claims made by former team-mate Claude Makelele that he was in any way responsible for Jose Mourinho's sacking in September 2007.

FOOTBALL2008-09 Premier League Chelsea captain John Terry - 0

Makelele claims, in a new autobiography ('Claude Makelele - Tout Simplement') published in France on Saturday, that Mourinho and Terry fell out over playing time as the captain dealt with injury, and that Terry asked for a transfer.

"I thought Mourinho was practically untouchable, but a lot of players had complained about him, notably John Terry," Makelele wrote.

"When John Terry let his discontent be known to [chief executive Peter] Kenyon and asked him for an immediate transfer, (owner Roman) Abramovich reacted immediately: the departure of Terry was totally unimaginable, from the point of view of the supporters, the players or the club owners. Mourinho was packing his bags."

However, both Chelsea and Terry have strongly refuted Makelele's claims.

"This is not a true version of events with regards to the transfer request as there wasn't one," said a Chelsea spokesman.

"Nor was the captain responsible for the departure of Jose Mourinho, which was mutually agreed between Jose and the club."

A statement released through Terry's lawyers read: "It has been claimed that John was in some way involved with the removal of Jose Mourinho as manager. This is categorically untrue and there is no foundation in this allegation.

"We also confirm (should it even need confirming) that John has never asked to be transferred from Chelsea."

  1. Chelsea may never win any serious cup again. Ask Newcastle and Shearer. . Once you set a player as a 'god' in a team. That is often the end of such teams. Let's see what happens today.

What is Claude Makelele doing writing a autobiography anyway. He's had no life, he is only young.Wait till your at least 60. He's just jealous that Terry still plays for a great team.

  8. It's probably the second book which reveals some sort of conspiracy in the Blues camp. First it was Ancelotti's story of meeting Roman 007 style, now Makelele. I wonder if Didier's biography has something in it, anyone?

  9. if it is written in the book & chelsea/John Terry dont sue Claude Makelele for libel and/or slander, then i would suggest some eliments of truth in what he wrote! Player Power at any club is unacceptable! could you ever see ronaldo getting fergie sacked? or even gerrard getting benitez sacked? just wouldnt happen! the scenes in the champions league semi-final against barcalona show signs of player power because that would only happen at a club where a player is belived to be bigger than the club (john terry, drogba, lampard, cole). goodluck today everton, as david moyes shows how a premier league club (& players) should be managed.

  13. sorry it was with reference to the 3rd comment about john he is very proffesional on and off the pitch. Also meet Mark Hateley whilst on the ferry from Plymouth to Spain he was a top bloke to but i was on a school trip. So not all footballers cause trouble off the pitch. Most are very proffesional people i know they get paid stupid amounts of money but there carrers are short and all it takes is a bad injury and they are finished. So rather than get on the backs of people like JT we should be praising them up so they feel confident so ENGLAND CAN CONCENTRATE ON FOOTBALL AND WINNING THE WORLD CUP RATHER THAN ALLEGATIONS. ITS ABOUT TIME WE WON THE WORLD CUP SO LETS START BACKING OUR TOP FOOTBALLERS AND NOT PUTTING THEM DOWN. COME ON EVERYONE LETS BACK OUR PLAYERS ITS UP TO THEM THEN TO MAKE ENGLAND WIN THE WORLD CUP NOT WORRY ABOUT WHATS GOING TO BE SAID ABOUT THEM. JT it was a plesure meeting you i hope all prekiership footballers are like you cannot stress anymore how much of a top bloke you are sorry for the comment i made to you hope one day to meet you in person to personally apologise as hope not to have upset you whilst you where on holiday with your family. As you took your time to speak to me and have your pic done where some would probably have thought i am on holiday can everyone leave me alone to chill out after the heartache of a long season and the bad ending to it. He also had pics taken with other people there and people also commented what a nice guy you are JT my mrs was impressed at meeting you and told everyone when we came home to plymouth. All the best in your future and carrer hope you lift the world cup for england one day. Sam james plymouth. Liverpool and plymouth argyle supporter.

  15. JT is an intelligent player, very aware of what's going on around him - Bobby Moore, who I often saw, was the same. Above all, like Moore or Gerrard, he inspires team-mates. This kind of player is special. I'm a Leeds fan: from all accounts John Charles was the same, though we're still looking for someone similar. Lets appreciate these guys who enrich the game and inspire kids in every way.

And hes one for you that was never mentioned or seen i dont think, last years c.l.final man u chelsea, watch the argument closely between drogba and tevez, if you look at terry closely when he comes running in he spits on tevex but hides it by sort of covering his mouth, watch it to believe the dirty scum bag @#$%. With reference to the 1st comment i met john terry whilst i was on holiday in florida. I meet him and his family whilst shopping and off the pitch what a top bloke he is. John and his family spoke to me. What a nice guy top bloke i am a liverpool fan and i mentioned to him about his penalty miss in the final against utd which i should not have done sorry john. He still carried on talking but shortly left understandable though. I told him that he was a top bloke and that i am sure that chelsea will get another opportunity to win it again so not to worry as they are a world class side. So as for being proffesional off the @#$% i would say what a good role model he would be for upcoming proffesional footballers. As he was polite willing to take pics with other people and down to earth. I would love to meet him again a true family man his dad was a good laugh and joked around and his mrs was lovely to talk to. John was not big headed or arrogant like some famous people can be and was not drunk and getting in any trouble like a lot do. So on this subject John Terry is very proffesional off the pitch and this is coming from a liverpool fan. It would be a pleasure to meet John Terry again what a top bloke. Hopefully one day when his carrer is nearing the end but not for a while i hope for englands sake Plymouth Argyle sign him. This is so that i can meet him to say sorry for my comment whilst he was on holiday about that penalty miss. He is such a lucky bloke i used to play football but ruptured my anterior cruciate knee ligament and had it rebuilt i had trials with proffesional teams and played semi pro till young age until injury not played since football was my life wanted to be pro. I always thought what it would be like to meet a premiership footballer would they be big headed and think they are better than everyone else but meeting JT has changed what i might have thought what a down to earth top bloke you are JT and excellent footballer on and off the pitch.
