Roberto Mancini is flattered to be linked with the managerial vacancy at Sunderland and admits he would like to manage in the Barclays Premier League.
Mancini has been out of work since a successful four-year spell with Inter Milan came to an end 12 months ago.
"I am very flattered to be linked with the vacant manager's job at Sunderland," said the Italian in a statement given to Sky Sports News. "It would be an honour to manage such a prestigious and historic club in the Premier League."
He added: "I have enjoyed a year out following winning the Scudetto on three consecutive occasions.
"Having completed a year of media commitments I'm now ready to return to full-time management.
"Ideally I would like that to be in the Premier League. I want to test myself against the very best."
Mancini was linked with the Black Cats following Roy Keane's departure last December, with some reports claiming his wage demands prevented him from getting the job which eventually went to Ricky Sbragia.

Sh(ite) Hawkmeister -
Page-74 of today's 'Mail on Sunday' pal, quite a big article; oh and there's something about Steve Bruce in there too - why on earth would i ever be jealous, go ahead take Mancini, i hope you do; personally i wouldn't touch him with a barge-pole.
Why all the @#$% from Newcastle's sad fans they could not hold onto a manager even if
they tied him down.
The Pope has more chance of becomming Sunderland Manager Than Mancini
B*LL*CKS! where is this Bob Cass article?
You have no idea who is going to be the next Sunderland manager and neither do I, you're not posting banter, it's jealousy.
W**ker
You lot are so deluded; just read an article by Bob Cass who, if you know your football, is well connected in the North East.
According to Mr Cass, safc have already been turned down by Van Gaal, Advocaat AND Mancini - fair play in attempting to raise your skirting board profile, but even the big plank knows that these men are waaaaaaaay out of your league.
As for you sh(ite)Hawkmeister, this is a public forum for anyone to access - just like the many, many mackems who are continuing to access our Championship club's pages; only difference being we post 'banter' and they post poison. . . . . . !
Tony, what are you still doing on the premiership forums, isn't your team in the championship?
I'm not sure how a "warm climate" man like Mancini would enjoy the North-East winters, nor am I sure about his managerial ability after a year off. Steve Bruce on the other hand, is not afraid of the North East, knows our supporters & has always done well as a manager operating on "shoe-string" budgets plus he is English.!!! I say give him the job. !!!!!!!
You're getting Geordie Boy Bruce . . . live with it!
You survive relegation with a derisory 36 points, and you suddenly think you can attract the likes of Roberto Mancini - and you call us deluded!
whats wrong with an english manager , for christ sake more rubbish
Just Googled the"Reet not so Honorable Mr Philip Wilson"
And i can assure you I wouldn't stand for the Labour party, even if I was granted Several hundred Second mortgages(with extensions and new kitchens of course) oh and not forgetting a Sky-scraper of a Duck house in my 148 acres- I know I'm vulgar and greedy, but I'm not breaking any rules or anything by not being him-Am I.
My political persuasion is one of abhorrent disgust at present, but if I did have to choose-it would be the color of Sunderland's Durham heritage away strip.
"Roberto Mackemcini's red and white Army!
pwilson
Your not the MP for Sedgefield are you.
Spouting off Spin to get elected are you.
I don't mind between Mancini, Steve Bruce, Gordon Strachan or anyone else so long as the loose when they play Hull! Gowon the Tigers! lol
Good luck elsewere though black cats. Hopefully we'll both have a better season than the last one!
"Roberto Mackemcini's red and white Army!
Got a ring about it that

Well if that isn't a come and get me, then I dont know what one is. And I was happy to have Wee Little Gordon at the helm, with is honest workman like methods but "Bobbyo Mackemcini" WTF
prefer Mancini to Bruce the Mag
When Niall Quinn stated that we would be getting a world class manager Mancini was the guy he was talking about. Now that we have secured our Premiership status and we have the backing of our new owner we can pay the wages that a manager of Mancini's status demands.
The knock on effect from this would be massive in attracting world class players to Sunderland and finally giving us the team that the fans deserve and once again be known as the "Bank of England" club as we were known years ago.
Certainly the fans do not want Steve Bruce who has achieved nothing, who walks away from clubs faster than Kevin Keegan and is a Black and White through and through.
So come on Niall and get this manager signed and lets start the rebuild that is required to have a succesful team.
would be happy with that
