Coventry have switched their attentions elsewhere after failing in a bid to lure out-of-favour Wolves striker Freddy Eastwood to the Ricoh. The Wales frontman has been heavily linked with a switch to the Sky Blues in recent weeks, and their chairman Ray Ranson has now revealed just how close the former Southend man was to signing on.
Ranson had agreed a fee with Wolves and manager Chris Coleman had settled personal terms with Eastwood, only for the deal to collapse.
Ranson told the Coventry Telegraph: "We agreed terms with Wolves and Chris met with Freddy last week to discuss personal terms.
"We agreed what I would consider to be a very attractive four-year contract but unfortunately the deal collapsed because of money the player is legally entitled to under the terms of his contract at Wolves.
"We are now searching high and low for a proven goalscorer in the Championship."
Coventry are now being linked with out-of-contract Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison and Southampton's Grzegorz Rasiak.
