Weston targeting better campaign

Mon 30 Jun, 04:30 PM

Rhys Weston admits Walsall will be looking to right the wrongs of last season when they kick off their League One campaign at Yeovil. The Saddlers failed to win any of their opening seven games in all competitions last term before an impressive run put them well in the mix for promotion - lying just four points adrift of automatic promotion at the start of March.

However, just two wins from their last 12 games shattered any dreams of playing Championship football and left Weston, at least, determined to set the record straight.

"I think it hurt people a lot more than we let on to be honest," he said. "Having had the start that we had last season and then to put ourselves in such a strong position before letting it slip away.

"Circumstances conspired against us in some respects but there is a little bit of contempt at what happened and I think once we all report back in and get together there will be a certain drive and determination to put that right.

"We might fall short again, you never know, but we will be striving in the right direction again."
