Bayern Munich sporting director Uli Hoeness thinks they have a good chance of signing Germany striker Mario Gomez from rivals Stuttgart.

Gomez has been linked with a move to the Bundesliga champions after top-scoring with Stuttgart last season, and Hoeness is still keen on buying the player despite his poor performances in Euro 2008.

"If Mario Gomez is going to transfer before the coming season, our chances of getting him are good," Hoeness told newspaper TZ.

"Obviously we're doing all we can to get him before he goes to Italy and people say 'How come you didn't try to get him?'"

Gomez, 23 in July, scored 19 Bundesliga goals in 25 appearances last season.

He failed to hit the back of the net during the European Championships, though, and missed several chances.
