La Liga - Thuram and Ezquerro released

Eurosport - Mon, 30 Jun 16:12:00 2008

Former France defender Lilian Thuram and once-capped Spain forward Santiago Ezquerro have been released by Barcelona.

FOOTBALL Thuram - 0

The pair were widely expected to leave the club after their contracts expired and Thuram, 36, looked set to complete a move to PSG but failed a medical due to a heart condition.

France's most capped player undergo further tests to see if he can continue playing and complete the move.

Ezquerro, 31, leaves after failing to win a regular place in the first team since his move from Athletic Bilbao in 2005.

He played only once for Spain - during the humiliating 3-2 European Championship qualifying defeat to Cyprus in 1998 - despite good form for Athletic Club in the 2004/5 campaign.

The former Atletico Madrid, Mallorca and Osasuna player has been linked with a move to Greek side Olympiacos.
