Samuel Eto'o's agent has hinted the striker is leaning towards staying with Barcelona, rather than joining Manchester City.
City are thought to have lodged a £25 million bid for the Cameroon international with Barca president Joan Laporta claiming a "stratospheric offer" had been made.
Reports have suggested the 28-year-old stands to become the highest-paid player in the world if he moves to Eastlands, with a figure of £250,000-a-week wages quoted by some newspapers.
Catalan sporting dailies Sport and Mundo Deportivo said Eto'o, whose contract with Barca ends in 2010, is demanding a "transfer bonus" of 15 million euros, something the Spanish club will not accept.
But Eto'o's representative has said, as things stand, his client will not move elsewhere this summer and instead remain at the Camp Nou.
Josep Maria Mesalles told ONA FM: "If there is not a 180-degree turnaround then he will stay with Barcelona."
Barca are believed to want to cash in on Eto'o before his current deal expires at the end of next season, when he would be able to leave on a Bosman free transfer.
Eto'o is thought to be upset by this stance, feeling he is being forced out of the club, and he could decide to stay in a bid to derail the club's plans.
Some reports are claiming that the former Real Madrid and Mallorca striker is demanding a £15m signing-on bonus to join City.
The three-times African Player of the Year was instrumental in Barca's unprecedented Liga, Copa Del Rey and Champions League treble last season, finding the back of the net 36 times.

Comment 154 - 173 of 213
barca from 1999 to 2004 have won nothing even if xavi kluivert rivaldo overmars and iniesta were part of the team
but after eto join in 2004, they won 3 league, 2 CL, 1 cup and 2 super cup
eto scored 132 goals in 5 years, he has become the club 3rd top scorer of all time
barca won 1 CL in 98 years but with eto'o, he make them win 2 CL in 5 years
the first was in paris, arsenal were leading by one goal but eto cause lehmane a red card and score vital goal in 73 minute which equale the result to 1-1
the 2nd was in rome, united were well over barca dominating the match and missing 4 clear chances in the first 10 minute
but with first half chance eto change everything, after that barca dominate
the fact is simply and clear for all
eto want to stay
he want to be paid like valdez puyol xavi and messi
barca refuse that, do you know why?
they think blacks are half human.
now i recognise what people say about spain, before whenever people say to me spain is a racist country i used to oppose that
but now i can be the witnes for that
in last 4 months i have been posting comments with different names and personality, the most common name was getachew44
i used 13 different email to know the fac, i pretend to be madrid fan with madrid father and catalan mother, almost all thought it is true
i did this to know about spanish people,
coz i don't want to judge with things they did like the monkey sounds to luis hamilton during formula one race in barcelona, or the monkey sounds to england national team particularly to rio camble and cole or also the monkey sounds to black players in la liga especialy eto and ronaldinho or even the former national team couch aragunes make racist stetment about henry
but i belive all this was fact when i start posting here
whenever i write football comment, the spanish fans attack me with racism comments
to all here are saying catalans are not spanish, infact you maybe right but you can't deny that the catalan are more racist than the others, the way they shout to hamilton in the formula race say alot, about the UNICEF , yes barca is helping but is kind of pristege
IF spanish people hate each other do anyone can say they like others
spanish make the life miserable to latin americans
when we go back to sport, some of known as barca fan, you want to make eto mistaken
i will make it clear eto ask the club the same payment like xavi valdez and puyol
few days ago xavi and valdez extend the contract till 2014
why no to eto?
infact i was diffending about spanish against EPL fans, i was with barca against chelsea and with real against liverpool
i was also saying rugby league to EPL but now i just know how fool i was when i was diffending for la liga and spanish people
to all barca fans
i hope you end your racism.
the good thing no one from madrid fan was racist with me
remaimber barca
barca treat Eto'o well else he leaves for man city
You guy have got to stop with the "Barca is racist" comments. I can use Henry as a reason to refute any proof of Barca's racism toward Eto'o. Henry is black like Eto'o. He wanted to leave last summer. But Guardiola convinced him to stay. Current evidences say that it's a business transaction between 3 parties. And remember, this is a BUSINESS. Eto'o, as an employee, has every right to choose his employer. I wish he'd stay, but I respect his right if he wants to leave.
"Burnley are gonna win the league ;)"
Thanks for the laugh, we need more humour on these message boards.
eto'o is gold, who else has scored in two champions league finals? and won it. he scores goals like we all have diarrhoea, he does his job, he scores!! but i get the feeling he is not treated as gold, as if he is dispensible, by his club. huge mistake! why break up a system which has worked? is he that african?
good for him
147. your complaining about the possibility of eto'o getting more money at city than barcas other stars will at barca, saying they'll be unsettled. were you complaining about that when barca offered henry more money to leave arsenal, no, were you complaining when you offered linekar more money than spurs could pay, how often have barca been guilty of that very same charge, if messi and co are unhappy at their wages they can leave and get more if they choose, thats an open market, its up to them so stop your moaning. barca are champions league winners they should be able to compete with any other team for their finances and if not, then you'd better hope the rest of your team dont want a new challenge and leave that stinky hole you call camp nou. p.s. you need to get a cleaner and a fumigator in before you try attract any more players cause your ground stinks
I finally have come to terms that those who write comments in this forum claiming Eto'o is greedy or Bla Bla Bla, know nothing about football management or how clubs treat players like commodities. It is inadmissible that a player at the top of his game is being treated unfairly. After giving all to Barca, makes me wonder if UNICEF shouldn't strip them of their sponsorship, thats just being inhuman. Last year they did the same thing and he delivered again, who gave them the required goeals to be Champions of Spain, who broke the deadlock after Man Utd had pressed them through the beginning of the Champions league finals without that his goal Barca were definitely having a rough time. Eto'o goal changed the rhythm of the game and United never recovered. So Barca shame on you. SHAME ON YOU BARCA. Why can't he be paid in the likes of Messi, after all he deserves it. So give him his bonus and let him go if thats the case. Or you give him a better deal. FULL STOP! SOAPY
Man city have no chance at winnin anythin
Burnley are gonna win the league ;)
Visca el Barca!!!
REF 773 THERS ONLY ONE TEAM IN MANCHESTER IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE AND IT ANT CITY
Who other than the mercenary Robiniho have City signed? Given a keeper past his best Bridge who was 3rd choice at cealsea and Santa Cruz (How many goals last season?) Then there is the mouth of the south Bellamy Can'y think of any others. All these world class rumours remind me of Glenn Hoddle at spurs linking himself to players every week with no end product though you might sign Owen before the end of the season!
getachew44-.. ur entitled to say your views mate.. but i dont think barca r racist club.. i ve supported them for over 20 yrs and i go to nou camp 3-4 times a year... and wot u must understand, spain is made up of different provinces and there is always a tendancy to view spanish as arrogant and racist..but barcelona is CATALUNYA not spain.. catalans r more welcoming to people than those from madrid-typical capital city arragoncy!!! and catalans r a different nation to spanish people.. and barca r very very proud of their catalan roots.. -hence the el classico's great importance. its a battle between catalans who under General franco were not allowed to be free and real madrid are seen as the symbol of dictatorship and that bloody era... or a football note:- barca want to have more catalan players -”home grown” like xavi, iniesta, puyol and barca over the years have had the great player regardless of their colour. And as you know in this era of money money.. barca donate a certain percentage to UNICEF which im sure u know unicef do fantastic work around their world especialy in africa.. I respect the fact some people think its a barca tactict to get a wider audience with their association with unicef. I know that barca had a choice between (betwin (gambling), beijin olympic logo(china's human rights record) or unicef, and as im someone from middle east who have seen unicef do great work and a barca fan, its an honor to wear their shirt.. plus I know a great deal about oppressed nations(as im one myself)
on comment 147. Getachew44 you are an idiot. Do you think that XAVI and Iniesta make Eto better. They are all good plays and the Barca is good because of them. Eto was a good scorer at Mallorca b4 joining barca. were there Xavi, iniesta messi and the rest with him there. Real bought him because he had potentials. thanks to real he is who he is today not barca.
Follow a play's profile before you talk nonsense. if ytou don't have what to say be quiet.JURK
to ricardotorres
1) u got a @#$% name
2)wen city do get in the champions league we wont dominate, it will be close between city, united, barca and madrid
ricardotorres773,
Man City will dominate the Champions league.
how will man city win thechampions league when they havent even quallified for it
i want madrid to be like barca and just have spanish and latin players playing for them latin players i mean spanish, italian, portuguese&south american players playing for the club and madrid are well on their way to doing that with players like Raul Albiol,Alvaro Arbeloa,Xabi Alonso&David Villa and the spanish players that already play for madrid Iker Casillas,Sergio Ramos,Miguel Torres,Guti,Ruben Del La Red & Raul not mentioning the spanish players on loan and that are on the bench and latin players like gago marcelo higuian and others and new latin players like Kaka & Ronaldo
man city is going to be the team to beat in 3 years
we are nowhere near yet but the signings thus far have been excellent
go city
