La Liga - Thousands turn out to welcome Kaka

Eurosport - Tue, 30 Jun 23:57:00 2009

Kaka was officially presented as a Real Madrid player in a Hollywood-style show to around 50,000 fans at the Bernabeu after passing a medical.

FOOTBALL 2009 - Real Madrid's new Brazilian star Kaka greets the crowd during his presentation at the Bernabeu in Madrid - 0

Director general Jorge Valdano had promised president Florentino Perez's second spell at the helm would be a "super-production" and they did not disappoint with the presentation of their first signing.

"It is a very special day for me. I hope I can write my name in the club's history books with victories and conquests," a slightly overawed Kaka said from a stage on the pitch.

The doors of the stadium had been thrown open to the public who packed the stands around a stage decorated with the club's nine European Cups.

Perez was up first, greeted with chants from the fans as he thanked Kaka for choosing Real Madrid before the Brazilian was given a pop star welcome as he emerged to roars from the crowd.

The Brazilian playmaker was presented with the number eight shirt and had to be protected by bodyguards as he walked around the pitch to greet fans.

Some of them jumped over the barriers and tried to touch the former Milan player who cost Real 67 million euros.

Portugal winger Cristiano Ronaldo, who was signed for a world record fee of £80 million last week, will be presented on Monday in another event covered live on television and internet websites across the world.

But Kaka said he was not worried that another big name signing would create tensions within the squad.

"It will be a privilege to play alongside him," Kaka said. "There won't be any rivalry with Cristiano. We are compatible on and off the pitch.

"We are experienced players and there is no room for jealousy."

He went on warn against the euphoria generated by the talk of a second Galactico era at Real Madrid.

"From my experience I have learned that talent alone is not enough. There are many talented players who have won nothing and others with less ability who have been successful," he said.

"It is good to have talented players but they have to sacrifice themselves for the team."

Spain defender Raul Albiol, who joined Real for a reported fee of 15 million euros from Valencia, is expected to be presented later this week.

  1. sorry indonoob...i dint realise u were a football manager! lol
stop making stupid claims..."we dominated the league by the way, between 2006-2008"....2yrs of domination!!!

and btw ur galactico era only got u 1 CL trophy...shows u dont even know about ur own club!!!

    luis figo joined RM-2000
    zidane joined RM-2001
    ronaldo joined RM-2002
    beckham joined RM-2003

and after 2003- u won nothing for 3 seasons!

an absolute farce in other words!!!
and u shld really sharpen up on ur football knowledge!

  2. RM has established themselves long ago before the likes of man u n barca u freak idiot~
And only RM scored more than 70 goals for the last season other than Barca in Europe last season. Furthermore, only english league that the top scorer is under 20 goals while the top scorer for other leagues such as Serie A, La Liga, Bundesliga n Ligue 1 is more than 20 goals and more than 1 person.

  3. Our last Galacticos won 2 Champions league in 3 years (2000 against Valencia, 2002 against Bayer Leverkusen). Between that period 1998-2002, it was one of our most successful periods since the Di Stefano era. And yes, I know Barcelona won it in 2006 but between 2006-2008 season, they were a mess. They were trophyless for 2 years in a row. I find it funny that just because English teams are recently dominating, that means other teams are underachieving. So does that mean that teams like Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, AC Milan are all garbage? You're having a laugh. You're biased views means absolutely nothing. Does that mean that United's early dominance in the beginning of the Premier League was a fluke, despite the fact that they can't win anything in Europe (apart from the treble year). I mean that's a whole decade. United did squat in that period in Europe

We dominated the league by the way, between 2006-2008. We've made records along the way. Too many superstars and too many egos and no balance? That's why you're just a biased fan sitting behind your laptop making useless comments and not a football manager.

  4. "Look at Barcelona last season. They were written off so quickly and they thought it was all going downhill in the 2008-09 season. Look what happened! They won the treble"

errm...they won the champs league in 2006! so 2 CL titles in 3 yrs clearly shows they have been in and around the best for some while!
madrid have not been doing that! it has been a long time since they have dominated anything!
ur last galacticos did not do it...and neither will this lot!

too many egos, too many superstars, no balance!

  5. Uhm we did win trophies. 2 la ligas and one spanish super cup in 3 years is not bad. Okay we're not doing too well in Europe but that's just a spell. Look at Barcelona last season. They were written off so quickly and they thought it was all going downhill in the 2008-09 season. Look what happened! They won the treble. And if you think Madrid can't do that then you know nothing about football. This period that the English clubs is dominating, it's just a period, just as when Italian teams dominated in the 90's, Spanish teams dominated in the beginning of the 21st century and now English teams are having a spell in the last 3-4 years. Again, it's just a spell. Madrid are back, Barcelona are stronger than ever. We'll see how everything goes in the next 5 years. Mark my words, the dominance of English football is over.

  6. to be honest...no one cares if real madrid r the richest club in the world, if they dont win any trophies.

richness in football is measured by success! and in recent years madrid have not been as successful...especially with the millions they have spent.
last CL trophy...2002...u won nothing last season...and got DEMOLISHED by barca!
liverpool also EMBARASSED you last season!

despite RM's riches, they hav not been able to compete with the top english clubs or barca!

  7. Winston Bunn, I'm sorry but YOU couldn't be more wrong. Like I said, we paid MOST of our debts, not all, and the remaining debts doesn't reach that amount. You do know that we have an annual revenue of over 300 million euros, that's not including the TV deals, and that we and Barcelona signed a 1 billion euros each for a 10 year period TV deal. You know absolutely nothing about Spanish football. This deal was signed in 2006. And the government and the EU? Are you kidding me? You have absolutely no proof of that. You're only relating to the fact that Madrid had some relations with Franco and that is in the freaking 60's. We have worldclass auditors checking our finances and if they say we're the most profitable club in the world, we rather listen to them than some biased fans. It's funny though, none of the media have mentioned about us being funded by the government or the EU apart from you guys. You know why? Because they know in detailed how much we're making and how we're doing it. Read a bit more please. Good day.

i know u may not trust me, coz someone play with my name but its nice to hear from u

to jokers james d and winston churchle
    why you are so stupid
general franco was poletician and the leader of spain only
Santiago bernabeu is the true god father of real madrid
there is big different btwn real madrid and other teams
madrid doesn't have any debt it is owned by members and fans, the presedent is elected
real madrid since the the biging has the stars policy, which help to finance the club with TV broadcast and advartisement + there is sponsors and shirt selling
yesterday only real madrid get 12 million prophit from the ceremony made to represent kaka, 50 different midia channel were covering the show and 38000 shirts were sold
in this summer transfer time, real madrid is the only team not effected by the recesion
all this show why real is the richest club in world
big clubs like united, milan, liverpool and valencia have huge dept so, they are selling not buying.
DON'T BE STUPID NO DEPT FOR MADRID AT ALL.

  9. indonoob,

I'm sorry but you couldn't be more wrong. Madrid are over 150mil euros in debt - prior to spending as much on Ronaldo and Cacka. United's debt is due to the Glazers and doesn't owe to over spending. Madrid would not be so big a club if it was not for the government and the EU subsidising them.

From Winston Bunn, on Wed 1 Jul 1:03AM
  10. lol James D, how old are you? 11? 12? You know absolutely nothing about football. Real Madrid paid most of their debts in 2007, unlike United. Yes, we are a business more than a club and we're a lot richer than most of you. How do we feel about english clubs poaching our best players? Ehm, Robinho? Yup, we sold him because he didn't want to stay, we sold him at a reasonable price, unlike you English clubs with £50m+ asking price and our fans dont go around saying "Dhurrrfffff stooopid Man City fans! It's all bcuz of da Arabz". How do you differentiate the idiotic fans from the classy? Voila.

From Bob, on Tue 30 Jun 11:17PM
  11. you need to stop talking about franco and understand that madrid are te most succesfull team in club footballing history if you remember fifa awarded madrid an awardfor being the best team of the last century awarded in 2007 and no team can compete with the amount ofleague or cl tittles that madrid have won 31 league and 9 cl tittles
