Wolves have made a statement of intent ahead of their return to the Premier League by clinching the signing of sought-after striker Kevin Doyle.
The Republic of Ireland frontman has been brought in from Reading for an undisclosed fee, although reports this morning suggested he would cost Wanderers a club-record £6.5 million.
According to Wolves they beat off competition from other top-flight clubs to recruit the 25-year-old, who has signed a four-year contract at Molineux.
Doyle, who signed for the Royals from Cork for a nominal fee in 2005, scored 55 goals in 163 games for the Berkshire club.
The Irishman revealed he had been impressed by the swiftness of Wolves' approach.
"Wolves were the first club that actually came in and settled things with Reading and so they were the first club I spoke to," Doyle told www.wolves.co.uk. "I was expecting a long summer but Wolves were in straight away.
"It was nice to see how keen they were and when I came in and met the manager I just got on really well with him. I had a good easy conversation with him and it felt right."
Doyle added: "I spoke to the manager and chief executive over a week ago and came to the training ground to see everything.
"I've been making my mind up over the last couple of weeks and am just really pleased the decision has been made.
"The facilities here are top class and it's great to be going back into the Premier League again. I'm sad to be leaving Reading because I had some great years there but I'm going with their blessing as well which is nice. This is a fresh start."

about time Wolves signed someone, we need a young midfielder like that Nathan Burns that Plays for AEK in the greek league or even Brandon Martin or Harry Baker from Leyton Orient all can slot into defensive midfielder roles. With the team the Wolves have they should look at two experienced defenders and two young midfielders and build on that at the nest transfer window.
Great move SUPER MICK!!!!worth every penny!!!
should have gone to Fulham, and if not Fulham than Everton. It shows a lack of ambition, maybe he'd just like to go through the motions of playing english teams each week instead of on the european stage, and at wolves the expectations wouldn't be as high
wolves got lucky, premiership/ ur having a laugh! @#$% team, fans are worse! cmon urzzzzz
old donney is a bit (understatement) of a plonker!! thumbs up if you agree
Very Good signing for us, Lets hope he hasn't lost his touch as did in the 2nd part of last season. Hopefully we can build and buy atleast 3 good defenders and 2 more midfielders, as we nearly have a squad full of strikers.
I would like to see a fighter like Middlesbroughs Pogertez (the mad Austrian)get him cheap with a bit of Grrrrrr and Chelsea's Mancienne as a bit of youth and speed.
Come on Wolves...we can do it this time.

I hate to see Doyle leave the Royals...he did very well for us. But, he needs to be the Premiership...no question about that at all.
Good luck, Lad...all the best to you and thank you for your service at Reading!
great purchase for wolves,i wanted blues to buy him but im happy for wolves as hes a great player, good luck ww ;)
great signing we're looking good for the new season COME ON WOLVES
a very good signing keep it wolves
Dear poor little Reading fans boo hoo arrr isn't it a shame that your spectacular implosion last season was the laughing point for all the other teams. Doyle had sense to leave a sinking ship, with the Auto trader not doing so well lately you need the money! Pathetic has beens promised so much and delivered nothing you deserve to in League 1 let alone the championship!
No it will not be easy but he may just be worth 10-15 goals next season and if blake gets going thst partnership with a few from Milijas might just be enough. All the best boys, just give it all you've got!
and as most 'real' black cat fans will know, Mick had no money, it was given to that silly muppet Keane
Good Luck Kevin, would have loved you to come to white heart lane.
