Tranmere manager John Barnes has told his players that consistency holds the key to their League One promotion aspirations this season.
Rovers came within a whisker of claiming a coveted play-off berth last term, only to be denied in the final game as Scunthorpe held them to a 1-1 draw.
That result meant the Iron finished sixth and went up via the play-offs but Barnes is now plotting another promotion push after being installed as Ronnie Moore's successor at Prenton Park.
"The name of the game for 90% of the teams is consistency," said the former Liverpool and England winger.
"Some teams are looking to win the league and win it in style, but for 90% of the teams if you can be consistent, you will be successful.
"Getting a system down as early as possible which the players understand will help that process of consistency."

Michael Owen has been diagnosed with gender identity disorder and will soon be having a sex change. He is, however, looking at things from a positive stance and having trials with the England women's national team, so desperate is he to wear the Three Lions skirt again. Apparently Fabio Capello is not an advocate of playing top town tarts in the men's team. Reuters News Agency. Bootle
