Sir Alex Ferguson has tipped new signing Antonio Valencia to make a significant contribution to Manchester United's bid for an unprecedented fourth league title on the trot.
United confirmed their first summer arrival this evening as the 23-year-old signed a lucrative four-year contract.
Although the Red Devils have not specified a fee, it is believed they have spent around £16million of the world record £80million banked from the sale of Cristiano Ronaldo.
And, while it is not expected Valencia will represent the end of Ferguson's spending, the United boss is already tipping the South American to make a big impact.
"Antonio is a player we have admired for some time now, having spent the last two years in the Premier League with Wigan," he said.
"I am sure his pace and ability will make a significant contribution to the team."

hey badok, his name is landon not london. benzema is going to real madrid. nice english you dumb @#$%
no london donovan..united do not need such player...london donovan is not good enough at united level...united just need one more big signing...benzema would be the best....GO fergie..you are the man..
Great signing. You know, one doesn' t need a team full of stars (take for example the galacticos that got themselves some new poo-pet, no offense Kaka but you were better of at City). Looking at Fletch and Carr, two hard workers, now this Valencia chap, these kind of players are great to have in order to let the other shine, like Rooney or his new up-front buddy Benzema, which would make United far more potent than when they had Ronaldo. Would be interesting to see Anderson on the left, and there you go. Strong team all around. Or why not even, a 4-3-3 system, leaving the rock-solid defense out, imagine this Hargreaves, Carrick, Fletch, and Berba, Rooney and Benzema?
utd should sell babertov, he is technically good but too slow for utd., or he be converted to a defender. two more midfielders and two more strikers and man u is
invincible.
F.A. Ushie
signing 2nd rated players is not going to work this time! Teams in the EPL are getting stronger and more competitive... I was disappointed with the signing of Berbatov and now Valencia. Man U is becoming weaker!
what happen to owen Hargreaves? he should back this coming season ... so why sign another midfielder?
The only 'shining' he'll get to do at Utd. is Giggsy's boots
Comment #1 What you qouted is exactly what your saying??? Anyway Well done SAF another rough diamond ready to be polished and let shine at Old Trafford.
I Keep saying that Nani should be given more gameplay still Valencia is a very good signing cause giggs is starting to play badly and it is just stupid playing him in central midfield. Now the only thing United need is another striker or hope that Berbatov plays better this season
fergs you have a lovely purps!!!
Good signing for UTD ..................BUT......................they need MIDFIELD players.................BADLY!!!!!!!!!!
In Alex Ferguson we thrust. He's always delivered & he'll deliver now too.
Sign Landon Donnovan!!!
He should sign Landon Donnovan
He plays, and even looks, like Nani. That being said, no great criticism of Nani, who has been decent (though better in 2007/08 than last season), but I think Valencia has a brighter future at United.
Well, decent signing.
Can fill in Ronaldo's old position, freeing Rooney to play as a central striker.
Just need another 2 decent signings and business will be concluded for the summer.
Well he is hardly going to say he won't make any difference is he, another case of the ble**ing obvious, can't you lot find anything sensible to write.
Good signing expect 2 more at least to come!
Watch this space.
Re-read mate, it suggest that it won't be the end of the spending.
'And, while it is not expected Valencia will represent the end of Ferguson's spending...'
really, and who is attributed to saying that?
I really can't see that SAF is finished there?
