Departing striker Kevin Doyle has been hailed as one of Reading's "best ever signings" by director of football Nick Hammond.
The praise came shortly after a £6.5million deal was announced which will see Doyle leave the Madejski for Premier League new-boys Wolves for a club-record selling fee.
Hammond spoke of his admiration for the Republic of Ireland international, who was signed for a nominal fee from Cork City in 2005.
He told the official website: "Kevin has been a fantastic player for us and first of all I would like to wish him every success in his future career. He has arguably been one of the club's best ever signings, in terms of what he produced on the pitch, the value for money he gave us and now the fact he has been sold for a club-record fee.
"On top of that, Kevin showed his commitment to us last season when he stayed after our relegation. We all recognise that he is a Premier League player and it was a real coup we were able to keep him.
"So with this deal in place now, the point in time arrived where it was the right opportunity for him and the right deal for the club as well."

Lizzy marry me
Reading has played at Accrington's ground before, Many, many moons ago. And I think they have played at Dagenhams ground as well in a cup match. You are a doubting Thomas Michealwilkins, Oh ye of little faith. A ball hasn't been kicked yet in the new season and you have them being relegated already, give the Royals and all the new lads a chance, let us wait and see what the new season will bring, we might be very surprised at what they can do. So Reading sold Doyle, and he is a good player and Reading will miss him, but he isn't the only player, there are others and now they might get a chance to show what they can do if they are played regularly. Good Luck Kevin with Wolves and Good luck Reading for next season.
IF THE ROYALS HAD ANY AMBITION THEY WOULD KEEP PLAYERS LIKE DOYLE AND BUILD THE TEAM AROUND THEM... I SEE A MASSIVE RELEGATION BATTLE COMING UP OR DOES THEY WANT TO VISIT GROUNDS THE'VE NEVER PLAYED AT BEFORE I.E DAGENHAM, ACCRINGTON!!!
