Hull remain hopeful they can entice Michael Owen to the KC Stadium after his Newcastle contract expires on Wednesday.
The Tigers are one of the few English clubs to have publicly declared their interest in signing the former Liverpool and Real Madrid forward although the 29-year-old is not likely to be short of offers.
Neither manager Phil Brown nor chairman Paul Duffen have had contact with Owen but they are hoping for a chance to meet as the player officially becomes a free agent this week. A move to sign England's fourth highest goalscorer would be audacious on Hull's part and Duffen insists it is no gimmick.
Duffen said: "Whether we get to speak to Michael tomorrow (Wednesday) or not I don't know, there are a lot of people that want to speak to him. But we will certainly make sure we have a dialogue.
"It is a very competitive environment, a lot of people want to sign Michael Owen. He has had a fantastic career and I believe he still has a lot to offer to the Premier League.
"I have heard there are clubs from all over Europe interested and we have to accept we are not a Champions League club - we are who we are. But I believe we could structure a deal with Michael that would make it very interesting for him to come and play football at club where he has the chance of starting every week and scoring goals to get his career back on track."

THE BALL IS WELL AND TRULY IN MICHRAL OWENS COURT!
CHARLES E, comment 3, Owen could have proved us all wrong last season, and the season before that, and the season before that, and he could have had us all eating crow the season before that aswell, but he didn't so I think we all pretty safe in saying he wont be dishing up the crow next season either.
ya cameron in life u agree some u disagree too thats why we are humans
CHARLES E
people like u live in dream world and never wake up.owen was good during his days but that time has passed now.so stop been a baby and move on
Owen will do well at Hull
Get in line sr. melvin, for the crow eating que is growing with your presence. Like the Pheonix, he will rise from the ashes in greater splendor and there will be plenty of crow for your plate.
Michael Owen has been diagnosed with gender identity disorder and will soon be having a sex change. He is, however, looking at things from a positive stance and having trials with the England women's national team, so desperate is he to wear the Three Lions skirt again. Apparently Fabio Capello is not an advocate of playing top town tarts in the men's team. Reuters News Agency. Bootle
All that Owen has given england, the premiership and all you can do is try and beat him down. I wouldn't want to be in a gang fight in NY with you on my side; I'd be dead in no time. He will surprise all of you this year and then you will eat crow and hate it. He's not done yet, and, even the england coach will have to apologize in turn. EFOZIA! can you play better? Who is signing you?
efozia e
