Rotherham manager Mark Robins insists Reuben Reid could still stay at the League Two club despite handing in a written transfer request.
The striker, 20, expressed his desire to leave the Don Valley Stadium in a letter to the club on Monday.
Reid has already been the subject of a £100,000 bid from MK Dons after scoring 19 goals in his first season with the Millers.
But Robins told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Reid may end up being here for the season.
"We'll see what happens. We'll certainly want the market value for a player who has scored 19 goals."
