Bell injury blow for Canaries

Wed 30 Jul, 11:45 AM

New Norwich signing David Bell will miss the start of the Championship season with an ankle problem sustained before his transfer from Luton.Manager Glenn Roeder confirmed the midfielder, who penned a three-year deal after joining for an undisclosed fee from Luton, had the injury before he switched to Carrow Road.

But the Canaries went ahead with the deal to make sure they did not lose out to any of their rivals for the highly-rated 24-year-old.

"Bell we signed injured. He will possibly be out for three or four weeks. We knew that when we signed him," Roeder told the Eastern Daily Press. "We know when he's fully fit, he'll add a lot to the team.

"We knew that if we didn't sign him we could have lost him to another Championship side so we decided to move a bit quicker to be sure we secured his signature.

"But he got injured a week before he came to us in a training session at Luton. It has caused a problem with his ankle but in three or four weeks he should be back to full training. But the main thing is we've got his signature."
