Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted he will continue to name William Gallas as his captain next season.
Gallas, who was handed the skipper's armband last summer, came in for heavy criticism following his reaction to the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Birmingham City in February.
And speculation has suggested that star midfielder Cesc Fabregas could instead be given the responsibility of leading Arsenal out after Gallas admitted he made mistakes.
However, Wenger believes that former Chelsea defender Gallas coped well with the pressure last term.
"I think he has done quite well last year for the biggest part of the season and a lot of responsibility has been given to him when it was right," Wenger said in the Daily Mail.

as an arsenal fan i dont like gallas.why is he still in arsenal?i thought arsene plays only young under 26 players.
Well William Gallas can improve his performance this season but he was not born to be a leader like Tony Adams or patric viera. Prof. Wenger should find a new captain for Arsenal. Unfornately, right now there are no candidate for this position. Anyways, Toure can do better as a captain than Gallas has done. Let give Gallas a chance to play for PSG and find a solid defender partnering with Toure. Why not Lerry King of Spurs or Kight of Aston Vila. Also hope that Wenger will bring a classy goal keeper to Asenal. 3 seasons without any trophies since Asenal could not find a good replacement for David Seaman. We should learn how Juventus or Chelse or MU has invested for a goal keeper position.
toure can make the best captain as he is able to control all the players in the field and he has all the gatz to defend and score at the same time and keep control if the the players get mixed up in a game of which is nomal
the team really want a leader who will keep it together under all sorts of pressure. William last season did'nt show that quality. People like tony adams,patrick viera, always showed the team the right spirit. Lets hope we have a catain who can replicate their qualities.

William Gallas deserve d captainship just cos he reacted d way he did last season after a 2-2 draw with Birmingham,wat i c Gallas did last season is just a reaction 4rm some one who is use 2 winning,remember he won d world cup 1998,also european cup,premiership wit chelsea n carling cup.Is just dat he is not use 2 not winnin 4 a long period.Please all real Gunners fan should try n tust his leadership.U could c his swap 2 Arsenal paid up scoring vitile goal 4 d Gunners compaired 2 Ashley coles in Chelsea.D major problem wit d Gunners deffence is Senderos let him get another offer elsewhere n let Gallas put off d num 10 jersey n put on num 6 nothing personal.
well I have to say i was very disappointed with him as captain last year, I think it is right he is given the chance to atone for his errors.
But I hope Wenger is strong enough to strip him of the captaincy should the need arise as I think his actions after the sickening tackle at Birmingham left the team needing a proper Captain AKA big Frank or Tony Adams to grab the guys and say OK we were robbed of one of our best forwards at that time coming into a vein of form and a blind ref but what does he do he cracked sitting crying FFS get a grip the team are young and need a strong captain
