Manchester City midfielder Elano has joined Turkish side Galatasaray.

The Brazilian playmaker has ended his two-year spell at Eastlands and will move to the Istanbul giants for a fee believed to be around £8 million.

A statement on the Manchester City website read: "Everyone at Manchester City would like to thank Elano for his services and wish him the very best of luck for the future with both his new club and with Brazil."

Elano, 28, arrived at City from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2007 as one of Sven-Goran Eriksson's first signings after becoming manager.

After an impressive start for the club, his form and fitness suffered as City slipped down the table towards the end of Eriksson's season-long tenure at the club. The arrival of new manager Mark Hughes saw him come in and out of the side.

With City recruiting a whole host of forward players during the summer to add to the wealth of attacking talent already at the club, the Brazilian has taken up the challenge of helping revive one of Turkey's biggest clubs following their disappointing fifth-place league finish last season.

Elano becomes the second City player to leave the club for Turkey this summer following striker Darius Vassell's transfer to Ankaragucu.

  1. im behind hughes all the way he's a bright young­ manager, not totally happy about this but i reckon more­ has gone on behind the scenes, on his day elano could­ win us a game against anyone in the epl but then­ he'l have 2 bad games, in the season before last we­ relied on him too much and when he was off game­ we'd get battered everywhere, i really wish he was­ concistent then we would have had a superstar, i really­ think he will do well in turkey he struggles in the­ cold weather. all the best bulmer

  2. kimmo.bjorkroth, City's best player was Ireland not­ Elano who is a part time player, only good when he is­ in the mood. Anyway, a lot of city fans have been­ saying how brilliant they will be next year with their­ attacking line up and not even mentioning him, i mean­ would he be first choice ahead of some of the players­ they have now? As for being brazil first choice, have­ you seen their results of late? Hardly insopiring?­ (Other than the win against itlay). Which i presume is­ what most armchair fans are basing this on!

  3. hughes show´s again,that he is not very good or smart.i­ said last season after the first game that he have no­ clue.and he keep´s showing that.he is getting rid of­ the best player he had.last year if i was running city­ they would have won the league with the same squad.he­ is useless.city going nowhere this season again.sad­ with so much potential.j,k

  6. hughes is a quality manager and he'll prove it next­ season now hes bought some of his own players (tevez,­ barry, roque) elano was good but couldnt cope with the­ physical standards of the epl, (specially in the­ winter)

  12. Hughes has got this one wrong, he is such a poor­ manager. As a United fan i pray he never becomes our­ manager. Elano was a good player for city. dont think­ robhino will be happy about this

  17. A good player Elano isindeed, but I agree with the­ observation that, at 28, he hasn't actually made a­ mark as an established footballer. When is he going­ to..?.... after he is over the hill? Now he 's gone­ to Turckey, its all over for Elano/ He should have­ stayed in Ukraine.

  18. Why do most City fans want Jose. OK you might win some­ silverware under him but his style of football is just­ plain boring. There must be other managers out there­ that would play attacking football and win some­ trophies, your mates down the road have been doing it­ for over ten years with less money than you have now so­ it is possible. I would say to any City fan give it­ time and you will be a good side, it's just not­ going to happen overnight like you seem to want it to.
