An attack by soccer fans on a television crew has dealt Japan's Urawa Reds a fresh setback in their efforts to improve the J-League club's image.
Local police said that a man had been arrested after a group of 10 Reds supporters allegedly beat up two TV cameramen after a home game at Saitama Stadium last month.
Urawa had been trying to repair the stadium's image as an intimidating and potentially dangerous place for rivals fans to visit.
The cameramen were subjected to a barrage of blows when the fans jumped from the stands onto the track, one suffering facial wounds which took a week to heal, Japanese media reported.
The Reds were fined a Japanese record £112,000 last year following violent clashes between fans after a J-League match against Gamba Osaka.
Riot police were mobilised as fans tore down safety fences and ripped up seats while some 5,000 angry Reds fans blocked off the exit for Gamba fans after the away side's win.
Missiles were hurled and Reds fans smashed through security fencing to get at the Gamba supporters and one Urawa fan toppled over the edge of the stands in the melee, breaking a foot.
Around 1,000 away fans spent three hours penned into the ground before being evacuated by police cars and vans.
