Onuoha agrees new City deal

Thu, 30 Jul 10:02:20 2009

Defender Nedum Onuoha has moved to end speculation over his future at Manchester City by agreeing a new five-year contract at Eastlands.

The 22-year-old academy product has been rumoured to be on his way out of the club as Mark Hughes makes a number of high-profile additions to his squad, but has instead committed his future to City and pledged to fight for his place in the team.

Onuoha broke into City's back four midway through last season and never relinquished his place with a series of composed performances.

But he knows that will guarantee him nothing in City's new-look team.

"I was pleased by the way I played towards the end of last season but at the same time I don't think that level of form will be good enough to get me into the side this time around," he told the club's official website.

  1. Good to see jimmy rice et al spewing their red bile over evrything. Jimmy he's the england u21 captain so switch on. I agree rafael and gibbs are great players but slating a player because he is a blue is ridiculous. I think it shows the level of football knowledge of the average utd fan!!!!!!!
Well done to Ned and all at city for the deal!

  2. I love Ned... he is the most articulate and thoughtful footballer i have ever seen speaking to the media. I am very happy to see such a great advert for our academy signing another contract, he will in the future become a great ambassodor and role model for kids.

  3. Absolutely over the Bluemoon that Ned has signed on at Eastlands for at least the next 5 years, a fantastic young talented Player who has come through the City Academy with the potential to be a world beater...."Well Done City".

Beswick City, no class no good no trophies. Loads of money will not bring any joy to you as you remain second and always inferior to the mighty United. It will all end it tears for the poor long suffering blue fans (all 25,0000 of them).

  5. So we do have a long term plan, well done City, youth and world class experience. Bet the press wont dwell on it though, just the big money signings. Aggh well jealousy is an ugly emotion.

  6. Great news that Nedum is staying. With a bit of fine tuning and more experience he will prove to be one of the top defenders in the Premier league. Go for it Ned!

    Onuoha wasn't excellent........he was stunning!
He alone picked up the slack from both Dunne and Richards.
I was fearful City would do something stupid like let him go, but for once they have seen sense!
At least Richard seemed to be getting his form back at the end of the season, so with Toure/Richards/Onuoha/(Dunne)Bridge we are looking better.
I wonder if Hughes will still want one more defender before we're done?
