Torres wants Alonso to stay

Thu 30 Jul, 07:51 AM

Striker Fernando Torres has insisted it would be "a serious loss to Liverpool" if Xabi Alonso completed a move to Real Madrid.

Benitez has threatened to pull the plug on negotiations if Madrid do not meet his £30million valuation of the player before the weekend - and Torres is hoping his compatriot stays with the club.

"It would be a bad piece of work if Xabi left - he plays his cards close to his chest so I don't know what is going to happen," Torres told The Sun.

"I'd put Xabi's own wishes ahead of everything else, of course, but he's got three years left on his contract with us and I'd love it if he stays.

"It would be a serious loss for Liverpool if he left this summer."

Torres' views are in stark contrast to former Reds goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek, who yesterday claimed a move to Real Madrid would represent a "dream come true" for Alonso.

Dudek, now the back-up goalkeeper to Iker Casillas at the Bernabeu, said: "He is Spanish and all the Spanish guys want to play for Real Madrid.

"This is a dream come true for them and Xabi knows that he's not the only one."

  2. For 30 million there must be players out there just as good as Alonso and a lot younger.

  3. To me xabi alonso is the best liverpool player last season by a mile! Stevie G - inconsistent. Torres - injured. Kuyt - not enough goals. Babel - flop. Carragher - costly mistakes. Skirtel - good. Lucas - waste of space. Benny - lightweight. Alonso- priceless..best midfielder Liverpool ever had. Stupid Benitez should not get personal with Alonso...Alonso was responsible for the 2nd placing..stop this transfer nonsense. Alonso is NOT FOR SALE.

  15. Maybe benitez's intentions are not for us to win any title at all.Why is it that anytime it looks like we have a strong team,he would do something stupid.Or is it because of the own goal Alonso got last season that made him want to sell him, u know he's fund of doing that. For petes seck you cant talk of Liverpool without mentioning people like Gerred,Alonso,Mascrano etc and besides he has three more yrs to stay.Infact i've lost all my respect for Benitez.

  16. i think nearly everyone in liverpool fc would agree wiv torres alonso should stay cause if he did go then liverpool wouldnt b the same losing alonso is like losing gerrard and torres sumthing rafa would regret! alonso deserves so much more than them idiots and tht's y he shouldnt go... if torres can honestly say from deep within his heart tht he shouldnt leave then i think a lot of peeps can 2 i most definitely can! plz dont go xabi... torres plays wiv him in spain as well and no's him so well especially wot the best club is 4 him also xabi and fernando r really gd m8's and it would b a shame 4 them 2 b split up! honestly rafa in my opinion if u get rid of xabi then u r making 1 of the biggest mistakes of ur life! give him the chance 2 prove he's still so talented liverpool fans love him 2 bits! we want the best 4 him the same way u do.

  17. Man UTD have lost 2 of there so called big 4, and one of them (Berbatov) i dont think i'd name in any of my top 3 premier league sides if could be asked to do em coz he is lazy and @#$% and just turns up each week for the money.. So now Rooney is there only player who could couse a threat, and i think he has rather too many goaless droughts as a striker if you ask me. If Benitez has any sence and wants to get Liverpool a title, Alonso wont be going anywhere. The spine of team. aka Riena, Carragher, Gerrard, Alonso, possibly Mascherano and Torres, have to stay intact, unless Benetez knows of anyone who could fill Alonso's boots. and unless theres a dark horse around Argentina or somewhere. There isn't anyone. So if Alonso does go anywhere, it will be a surprise.
