Beibut Shumenov stopped Danny Santiago in the ninth round in Las Vegas to retain his WBA and IBA light heavyweight titles.

The fight was a one-sided affair with the Kazakh able to land shots to the 38-year-old American's head and body seemingly at will.

But Shumenov was made to wait for a result, a quick combination leading to a TKO 44 seconds into the ninth round.

Victory for the 27-year-old was his third consecutive title defence and his record now reads 12-1 with eight knockouts.

Journeyman Santiago fell to 31-5-1 with a record of 0-3 in title fights.
