British teenager Laura Robson fell at the last hurdle in her bid to qualify for the US Open.
The 15-year-old was defeated 7-6 (6) 4-6 7-6 (4) by the Czech Republic's Eva Hrdinova in a dramatic final qualifier that was played over the course of two days due to rain delays.
The final set was particularly gut wrenching for Robson as she held leads of 4-1 and 6-5 before eventually losing her second tie-break of the match.
Robson, ranked 460 in the world, was handed a wild card into the qualify stages of the event and had already beat world number 128 Stephanie Foretz in the first round and the 253rd-ranked Aniko Kapros in round two.
Elena Baltacha was also defeated in the final qualifying round as she lost 4-6 6-2 6-4 to Australia's Anastasia Rodionova.
With British number one Anne Keothavong out for the rest of the season with a serious knee injury it means that Britain will have no representative in the women's main draw.

Still too young to worry about these kind of losses. At 15 she has all the future in front of her. We will hear about her again for sure.
Such a shame for Laura but never mind she is very young and has plenty of time on her side to be in grandslams.
Michelle Larcher de Brito is a lot better than Robson, she is a year older but is 350 spots above in the rankings...lol
Robson is just another overrated player...there are many out there...
she is way too over-rated....definitely incompetent player..Why did Eurosport create a thread for her...... She has no significant value in US Open.. With or without her it makes no difference.....
she lost
lol
look at that picture...lol the chic has the hand of hulk....lololol
bredafarrell. Youre the piss/poor loser.
Ha, Ha, Ha...did you said Britain without representative at US Open...remember she is Melbourne (Australia) born Girl...Aussie, Aussie, Aussie...Oi. Oi, Oi...!!!!! (Bad Luck Poms).
I also remember having seen her come from behind to win sets on two or three occasions. Once again she is 15 years old. She is developing as a player and her body is changing, so she is bound to be a little inconsistent at this stage. She was playing an opponent 10 years older and vastly more experienced. To accuse a player of choking when you didn't even see any of the match is preposterous.
Not just 4-1 and 6-5, but 4-0* and *6-5. And she led 5-2* in the first set, with two set-points.
VERY GOOD...no BRITAIN at the US OPEN.....
VERY GOOD...no BRITAIN at the US OPEN.....
VERY GOOD...no BRITAIN at the US OPEN.....
Are we off again? Dear oh dear. Give the child a break!!!!!!!!!!
Bobito right on the button as always.
Laura Robson will win more slams than Andy Murray
A fifteen year-old takes a 25 year-old ranked 257 places above to a third set tie break and you call her a loser bredafarrell? Get a life.
