Internazionale thrashed rivals Milan after three first-half strikes gave Jose Mourinho's side a 4-0 victory in their Serie A clash at the San Siro.
Thiago Motta gave the Nerazzurri the lead on the half-hour mark, rounding off a slick exchange from Diego Milito and his strike-partner Samuel Eto'o with a precise left-footed finish.
Milan skipper Gennaro Gattuso sustained an early injury and was exposed as Eto'o streaked clear on goal with the midfielder hauling the Cameroonian down in the box.
Gattuso was booked for the infringement and Milito stepped up to dispatch the penalty emphatically down the middle of the goal to double Inter's lead.
Clarence Seedorf was the intended replacement for Gattuso but the Dutchman dallied long enough for his captain to pick up a second booking for a crude challenge on debutant Wesley Sneijder.
Inter's pressure was incessant and a third goal was added on the stroke of half-time to compound Milan's misery as their fans showed their displeasure.
Maicon played an exquisite one-two with Milito on the edge of the Milan box before coolly slotting home a clinical finish to further stun the Rossoneri.
The fourth goal was worth waiting for and it came from an innocuous position as Dejan Stankovic unfurled a piledriver from 30 yards to beat Marco Storari in stunning fashion.
The cameras were trained on Milan coach Leonardo and his counterpart Mourinho as the pair's fortunes became starkly contrasted.
Sneijder made his debut after signing from Real Madrid during the week, while Walter Samuel and Cristian Chivu also stepped in as Mourinho made three changes.
Milan reacted to their dismal first-half showing with a double change as Massimo Ambrosini and Clarence Seedorf replaced the ineffectual Marco Borriello and Mathieu Flamini.
The tempo of the play in the second half was notably more pedestrian than the first as Inter were content to keep possession and consolidate their lead.
Sneijder unleashed a rasping shot from 30 yards which dipped viciously and grazed the crossbar on its way out of play as the Dutchman further distinguished himself in the 60th minute.
Eto'o had a fourth goal disallowed in the three minutes later and it was a correct decision with the striker having strayed offside before he headed past Storari.
It was an inauspicious way for Sneijder's compatriot Klass-Jan Huntelaar to make his debut for Milan as a substitute midway through the second half, and the striker was able to make little impact.
As disgruntled Milan fans streamed out of the exits, no one was left in any doubt that a strong statement for the new campaign had been made by the Serie A Champions.
Bari 0-0 Bologna
Bari were held to a 0-0 draw by Bologna at San Nicola with substitute Ferdinando Sforzini sent off in stoppage time.
A drab affair was notable for the red card shown to a frustrated Sforzini in the 90th minute for violent conduct.
Daniele De Vezze was by far the most potent threat for the hosts, but neither side was able to create clear-cut opportunities to break the deadlock.

Milan where are your youth players, you know the ones that are Italian, if you can not afford them then make your own for the sake of club and country.
Whoever compares Eto'O to I-bra is blind. Eto'O rocks all over! And the record is there to prove it right. What has Ibra got? Nothing so far!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From a Blues fan
Justin, we beat Inter before and we will beat them over and over again.....Jose was ours and he knows what we capable of doing, so stop chasing a wet dream!
Blooooozzzzzzzzzzzeeeeeeeeeeeesssssssssssss is Mighty!
Im so sorry for the Great Club of AC Milan, but more for
there fans, they deserve better than this, better than Leonardo
, and more than a Huntelaar calibr strikers...Look what Madrid
have done, they dont have home grown superstars, so ? so they
spend money and buy players, they return the money which comes from the funs back to the
fans, in the way of a good players, success and enjoyable game....take an
example from REAL MADRID
Halla MADRID!!!!!!
I am starting to wonder if the youngest person in AC Milan team is the coach himself
haha Inter is my most hated team,i don't like milan but this match was clear before the first whistle :)
Milan are still weak without a class midfield player and a defender "_ :P
inter are gonna crush all the english chav teams....man poo...liverpoo...chelski.... the years of the yobs are ending
If Milan carry on playing like this they don't stand a chance of crossing the group stages of the Champion's league......And why the heck did Borrielo start instead of Inzaghi?????
its just one match milan can bounce back, u cant judge their season by one match, dont 4get tht inter are going to loose sully muntari and samuel eto'o to the african cup of nations very soon and tht will b the difficult time for inter whereas beckham will b coming back 2 milan in jan for another spell, milan usually do very during the winter time. but still inter killed milan yesterday and i blame gattuso and seedorf :@
Wtf...Eto has proven nothing yet. Only that he can score penalties, thats nothing! I can do that! I would say Sneijder will be of more value to Inter this year than Eto.
Milan are so pathetic and screwed over this season hope they dont get relegated with this fecked up play and incompetent young manager....
Go on inter.... Eto'o Milito and Sneijder have more to deliver.... God should protect them from injuries!
Huh!!! Eto'o has already settled, it seems. 3 goals in 3 competetive matches for Inter. What's Ibra waiting for????
Welcome to Inter Sneijder n Samuel Eto'!!!!
If the final of the Champions League is Inter vrs Man Utd,,it will rock the world!!!!!!
Trivia Bonus Question..
HiGuys..
Is Carlo Ancelotti,Harry Redknapp,Martin O'Neil,David Moyes & hell even Gianfranco Zola a far better manager than that Fat Spanish P***K??..i would say YES!!!..he is rather 'S***e"!!!!!....
fukcing berlusconi needs to start investing in this team again or get the @#$% out of here with his @#$% propaganda. he has given up on this team when he sold kaka, and who did he bring in, no one. this is a disgrace for Milan, embarrassing to play like this.
Kassem, I guess he is feeling bad..
wonder how Laporta feels now after swaping strikers and handing an extra 40m to Mourinho to buy snijder and cover most of the costs been paid for Milito and Motta. And having set to meet with them in two legs for the CL.
Stankovic's goal was fabulous!!!!
mourinho is a great trainer, so stop hating on him!
