Stockport boss Jim Gannon accused Brentford defender John Mackie of "assault" despite watching his side record a 3-1 win over the Bees.Striker Anthony Elding grabbed a hat-trick to give Stockport the win, but the game was overshadowed by a furious touchline spat between Gannon and Brentford boss Terry Butcher after a series of strong challenges from Mackie.
"There were so many fouls and their number five was guilty of assault on Matty McNeil. The referee is supposed to protect the players but I didn't see much of that," said Gannon.
"I'm very proud of my players. Sometimes I get angry and frustrated but it was a very professional and rock-solid performance.
"We were mentally strong throughout the side."
