St Patrick's failed in their bid to become the first Irish team to reach the group stages of the UEFA Cup as they were knocked out by Hertha Berlin after a goalless second leg.
Hertha held a 2-0 advantage from the first leg at the Olympic Stadium in Germany, and despite a battling performance by the Eircom League of Ireland side they were unable to find the net.
The match was switched from the Inchicore outfit's Richmond Park to the RDS Stadium - home of Leinster Rugby - and ended on a sour note when St Patrick's defender Damian Lynch was sent off three minutes from time.
In the evening's other tie, CSKA Moscow disposed of Croatian club NK Slaven Belupo to progress.
Vasili Berezutski struck the game's only goal to ensure CSKA Moscow claimed a 3-1 aggregate success.
