Premier League - Everton lose Cahill appeal

Eurosport - Tue, 30 Sep 19:32:00 2008

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has failed with an appeal against the red card he received in Saturday's Merseyside derby.

2008-2009 Premier League Everton Tim Cahill - 0

It means the Australian will serve a three-match suspension, starting with the Premier League game against Newcastle on Sunday.

Cahill was sent off for "serious foul play" by referee Mike Riley following a challenge on Xabi Alonso in Everton's 2-0 defeat by Liverpool.

The Football Association confirmed an independent regulatory commission had rejected Cahill's appeal.

Boss David Moyes, meanwhile, admitted a charge of improper conduct.

The charge related to Moyes's reaction to a decision made by referee Alan Wiley during the Toffees' Premier League match against Stoke on September 14.

Moyes has requested a personal hearing, with a date still to be set.

The Scot was angered by Wiley's decision not to award a penalty for what he felt was handball by Stoke defender Leon Cort.

  1. i hate john terry,i believe he is nothing but a thug on and off the pitch and do not think he is fit to be in the england squad let alone our captain.however as much as it pains me to say this his red card was not deserved whereas xabi alonso was very lucky he didnt have more weight on his left leg as it would have been easily broken by cahills reckless challenge.

Are you seing what am seing or feeling the same as am; foreign player are more carded than the english player of the same offence or tackle; that is why Cahill was given red card for minor tackle and was not overturned by FA, if he w' english FA would have overturned it. forgive me for saying the truth

Comment 33, just shows ow much of a typical bitter red nose F*!K you are. By the way didnt the Liverpudlians think that the ref was out of order last season when he sent Mascherano off for descent against Man Utd. But when its a player from another team u think their obnoxious. Theres one phrase that @#$% to mind "2 faced T!*T. U need to take a long hard think about what your gona write on here coz ur makin a proper P*@CK of yourself.

You av got nottin better to do than sit on ya computer makin stupid irrelevant comments about Everton. Concentrate on the team you support D*!@ head.

  10. June Anderson you know nothing. Everton were only known as St Domingos for one year, and that was over a decade before they won their first league title. Why do you think you lot wanted to call yourselves Everton Athletc a year later when the teal Everton moved out of Anfield?

  16. We all knew sense would prevail, tho what the feck j terry has to do with this incident i dont know,if you keep relating red cards to previous stuff by other players you are playing judge and jury.the reff is there to "refferee" the game,he got it wrong, should have been yellow for cunthill, and arbalony.then cahill shoulda got a yellow for the second tackle."el oh el" purly on the grounds that it was a @#$% attempt,i bet he slid in thinking oh @#$% this is gonna look tits up on MOTD.haha moyes chew on that.seriously tho, there should be a panel of ex players who have the right to overturn decisions.not some FA @#$%,there all joined at the hip, they wont overturn @#$%,and if they did theyd never have the balls to call for a replay, like last weeks goal"that wasnt even in the goal" let alone over the line.
Plus since everton left anfield, the ground has seen glory days that rival and surpass any other english club, imagine the @#$% everton would have played there for like a 100 years plus.
Imagine that and your a season ticket holder at goodison .whoop whoop

  18. There obviously not going to overturn it ,or for that matter any other decision past or present because Everton aint't a top four club.Riley's a joke as are most of the premier officials as everyone knows ,unless you support the TOP FOUR.Referees will only get"RESPECT" when they earn it! which will never happen!..........SCOUSERS=EVERTON.....KOPITES=WOOLS,IRI SH and SCANDINAVIANS!!!!!

  20. i think the red card could have been avoided if Tim Cahill has been sportmanship enough. In these days of RESPECT in football what he has done by ignoring the referee call on him after the tackle was uncalled for. I would have protested to the FA if he had not been given the straight red. Players should also learn how to be pleasant and disciplined at all times especially when under pressure they should not loose their heads.
