Premier League - Everton lose Cahill appeal

Eurosport - Tue, 30 Sep 19:32:00 2008

Everton midfielder Tim Cahill has failed with an appeal against the red card he received in Saturday's Merseyside derby.

2008-2009 Premier League Everton Tim Cahill - 0

It means the Australian will serve a three-match suspension, starting with the Premier League game against Newcastle on Sunday.

Cahill was sent off for "serious foul play" by referee Mike Riley following a challenge on Xabi Alonso in Everton's 2-0 defeat by Liverpool.

The Football Association confirmed an independent regulatory commission had rejected Cahill's appeal.

Boss David Moyes, meanwhile, admitted a charge of improper conduct.

The charge related to Moyes's reaction to a decision made by referee Alan Wiley during the Toffees' Premier League match against Stoke on September 14.

Moyes has requested a personal hearing, with a date still to be set.

The Scot was angered by Wiley's decision not to award a penalty for what he felt was handball by Stoke defender Leon Cort.

  1. Cant believe it, so giving the ref a bit of greif is bad, but its ok 4 john terry 2 rugby tackle who ever he pleases!! JOKE!

  2. I will say no more than that you must have expected the FA to uphold this.! he was only given the red because he ignored the ref when he was called over after the tackle. it was the ref wielding his power. nothing else.

the FA wanted to show they had some balls this time having made a hash of things with the john terry situation.! he should have been banned without a doubt.!

sorry toffees.! you better hope moyes stops clambering about contract issues and find a way to get his players to perform or standard liege WILL beat you.!

  4. Cahill was no worse than Mascherano at Old Trafford last season, and Mascherano was certainly no worse than Kuyt against Neville at Goodison a couple of months earlier. My point is, you can watch MOTD every weekend and see horror tackles go un-punished, but as soon as you treat the whistle-wielding Prima Donna with the contempt they (often) deserve, you'll get the book thrown at you !!

  9. I didn't misspell Analfield, it is what it is, a second hand ground we left you. First Championship won there was by Everton you bunch of Premier League tossers. I would imagine all those Norwegian reds were all excited about seeing the rs, so god bless their little viking hearts, for singing. Looking at the English of some of the replies on here, there's no reds from our great city.

Gerrard is an utter @#$%. Not all captains stoop so low as to get players sent off.

You must be young as you say Keane had two assists lmfao. The Premiership days at its best. Assists are part of football now. I gather you don't go the games?

From Jamie, on Tue 30 Sep 2:43AM
  10. I thought the reason it was a red was cos it was a two-footed tackle, the other foot came in a little late but was still there. But that ref is a @#$%, whenever he comes on we know Liverpool are gonna have to play the opposing team and the ref's stupid decisions as well

  12. Here's one for John J, u horrible red nose C*@T. Goin on bout the blues bein fined for throwin bottles n coins at Gerrard on the Derby, what a load of @#$%. Ur horrible fans did alot worse to Phil Neville at Anfield if u remember. An he @#$% himslef and wouldnt take next corner either.

Ur fans even did it to Rooney so uve got no arguement.

Without a doubt Liverpool fans are the most disgusting fans in the league.... pardon me, in the world. They do alot more than just throw things........

  13. That foul on Alonso could have been a yellow, perhaps, but Cahill should have been given a red card earlier on for hitting back after being fouled himself!

Though your calling the one of the grandest stadiums in the world analfield, i think you mis-spelled, it's atcually Anfield. Im just going to go back to the beginning of the live match coverage.

'The teams are out, and a predictably huge cheer goes up around Anfield as Liverpool kick off!'

The guys probably never heard of Goodison before, poor lad, probably heard the Liverpool fans singing louder than the Everton ones and assumed it was a home game.

I may also add, Gerrard protests, yes, but doesn't every other Captain try and make the best of their rights, the difference is he's atcually educated and can persuade people.

And to answer your theory about Keane, although he has not scored yet, without him it would have been a 0-0 draw, notice he practically made the assist for both goals.

  18. Its about time footballers were given a lesson in manners.
That @#$% Cahill totally ignored the refs whistle,, I could here it and I was sat 80miles away in my living room,, then as he turned to the ref you could clearly see him say either f##K of or f##k you,, That is why the ref sent him off not the tackle.
Everton should be allowed to appeal and then when the appeal fails dock them 3 points if things like this start happening in football it would cause the clubs to instill some discipline in to the thick heads of the spoilt little @#$% who lets not forget it are supposed to be role models for kids,

From Stuart W, on Mon 29 Sep 7:38PM
  19. The ref has to make a split second decision to allow the game to continue. I have no loyalties in the PL at all, but I enjoy the games. On balance it was a double yellow for Cahill in one go and the FA should not overturn it but the FA are unpredictable, and do seem to have their favourites.

What is sad to see are the twisted looks on the faces of the fans and the stick these players take when the ball goes out for a throw, as well as the missiles and other objects thrown . And this is happening when both teams are from the same city.Players seem to show great restraint here but are concentrating on the job in hand

From taff, on Mon 29 Sep 6:49PM
  20. cahill is a @#$%,cant tackle, has no diciplin, and moyes doesnt know the first thing about handling players.
As for some @#$% calling ANFIELD analfield, listen here you shell suit wearing c0ckstain,atleast when we took over the stadium many moons ago we gave the place more than its share of glory days, and will again now.as you witnessed on saturday at your tin pot ground.
Can you imagine the complete @#$% everton would have played at anfield all those years.
LOL i guess you can cos you're playing it at goodison, haha soft lad
