Lyon swept aside Hungarian minnows Debrecen 4-0 with a first-half masterclass in Group E of the Champions League.

The French side hit three goals in the first 45 minutes at the Ferenc Puskas-Stadion through Kim Kallstrom, Miralem Pjanic and Sidney Govou then Bafetimbi Gomis added a fourth in the second half.

Claude Puel's side now sit top of the group after Fiorentina beat Liverpool 2-0 in Florence.

Lyon stormed into the lead with just three minutes on the clock. A corner from Bosnian midfielder Pjanic picked out Kallstrom on the edge of the box who lashed a left-footed volley past the outstretched hand of Vukasin Poleksic.

The pressure continued and it was 2-0 only 10 minutes later. Debrecen conceded a free-kick 25 yards from goal and Pjanic punished them, whipping a right foot shot over the wall and past Poleksic who was slow to get across his line.

Lyon captain Govou put the game out of sight in the 24th minute with the home side again exposed by a set-piece.

The unmarked French international met a Pjanic corner from the right and his header deflected off an unfortunate Peter Czvitkovics and into the back of the net.

Andras Herczeg's men tried to rally, but whenever they broke through the visitor's rearguard Hugo Lloris repelled their efforts.

It could have quite easily been 4-0 before the break, but Govou was denied by a smart save from Poleksic and Francois Clerc dragged a volley wide following good work by Kallstrom.

Debrecen's defending did not improve after the interval and Claude Puel's side exposed the Hungarians' soft centre in the 51st minute.

Kallstrom lofted a ball over the top for the galloping Gomis who nicked in ahead of a stranded Poleksic and lobbed the last defender to make it 4-0.

Govou and Ederson squandered further goalscoring opportunities for the visitors who ran out comfortable winners with a trip to Anfield next up.
