Everton have issued a positive briefing on injured midfielder Mikel Arteta, but the Spaniard is still 'weeks away' from returning to action.
The gifted midfielder has been sidelined since suffering a serious knee injury against Newcastle in February.
Arteta suffered a setback in his rehabilitation recently, but is now well on the road to recovery.
"Mikel has had the sutures removed and a bit of the meniscus came free but he seems fine," Toffees physio Mick Rathbone told the club's official website.
"He is only seven-and-a-bit months post-op so you've got to be careful because these injuries take a long time to come back from.
"We have to take it on the chin and support Mikel but we are talking about a return to action for him in weeks not months."
Phil Neville is expected to find out this week if he has avoided the need for an operation on his knee.
"Two weeks ago it looked as though the problem did not require surgery," added Rathbone "It is very difficult to assess a knee that is sore and full of fluid so a specialist will now take a look. We have put a Christmas time-frame on a return but if all goes well maybe that will be a bit pessimistic."
Rathbone also added that Victor Anichebe and Phil Jagielka are making good progress.

I'm sure you'd do most things for free Sally.
Look at the plight of that c***.
just to continue the "love in" im a kopite and i think its gr8 news he'll be back soon, #2 spot on gr8 guy, gr8 pro and would be an addition to any team.
I am a chelsea fan but i like Arteta. I wish him the quickest comeback and a strong one too. He's humble and maintin a low media profile unlike most bloated palyers in PL . good to hear he's coming back .
Even as a proper Gooner it's good to hear that Arteta is on the way back. He is a quality player who would improve any game and probably any team. Good luck to him and hope he is back soon
I would like to work for everton, i would like to hold the soap for the players in the shower so that they wont drop it, i would be prepared to do this for free
