Stobart M-Sport Ford drivers Henning Solberg and Matthew Wilson both encountered mechanical issues during the World Rally Championship's finale in Wales last weekend, but their common objective of finishing in the points was met.
Ford's satellite team can therefore boast that it scored points on every round of the 2009 WRC season, although Rally Great Britain proved to be a tricky and complicated affair as the crews raced upon rain-drenched muddy trails.
"Once again the weather conditions have made this a very tough rally," Henning Solberg said. "The first day was the hardest for me as it was really difficult to concentrate with the engine misfire. But we put that behind us and had a good run on the rest of the rally and I was happy with most of the times we were setting."
Despite losing much time on the rally's opening day, the Norwegian nonetheless took fifth place overall in Wales - albeit with a five-minute gap to the driver ahead. The Norwegian is satisfied that he did what he could in the circumstances.
"Apart from Day One, the car has worked well and felt very nice to drive. I tried my best throughout the weekend and it's special to finish the season with a top-five finish," Solberg said. He ends the season sixth in the drivers' standings, two points behind his brother Petter.
Aboard a sister Stobart Ford Focus RS WRC, Matthew Wilson dealt with different issues during Rally Great Britain's opening stages.
"Friday was a very frustrating day because we lost a lot of time with the traction problem," he reported. "The guys did a fantastic job with the car on Friday night, though, and it was great to drive for the rest of the rally."
The Briton gained back some of the lost ground to finish in sixth position, over a minute behind teammate Solberg.
"It would have been nice to get a top-five finish because that's what I was aiming for before the rally started, but I am happy with sixth. Conditions were very difficult, especially with the rain that made it really challenging."
Wilson put the tough weekend behind him, preferring to focus on the 2009 season's overall result: "I've secured seventh in the championship and that's very positive."
