Sol Campbell has set tongues wagging by admitting he is attracted by the prospect of a move to Newcastle.
The former England defender is currently embroiled in a legal wrangle after walking out on Notts County just one game into his career with the League Two side.
Campbell is unable to sign for another club until the transfer window opens in January, but it appears Newcastle are high on the list after confirming he has spoken to the Magpies.
"I have been approached by several clubs, and yes, it is correct to say that Newcastle are one of them," Campbell told ESPN.
"People might be surprised to hear me say that I would be very interested in a move there, but I have my reasons.
"Also, Newcastle are a big club and could be heading back to the Premier League. It appeals.
"I am training every day with Arsenal, feel fit, as fit as ever, and now I really need some matches. But to sort out the mess at Notts County, a Football League tribunal seems to be the only way out."

what an absolute load of n obs on here....no-one knows what is going to happen, once again paper talk has everyone jumping up and down...have you lot not learned anything, it's toon baiting time again....
And where the hell has it been said he will get thirty grand a week? Do you honestly believe that fat mike would fork out money like that after he has had to slash the wage bill by getting rid of good decent players, prem quality players may i add, just to go and get a 35 year old who would be lucky to last a season and spend 1.5 million in wages on him....grow up.
If, and thats a big IF, Campbell does arrive at ST JAMES PARK (and always will be) he would be an asset for Taylor and Colo, because, contrary to believe as one person has posted on here, taylor does not have the experience to cope with these wily old forwards, as shown last year.
I believe we will go back up. And i say get as many people in as possible, because at the moment, we have one of the smallest squads in the championship.
He'd do a good job here. He should have been here months ago. He made a mistake going to Notts Co, but so what. If he plays for us for a spell and we get promoted, everybody would be chuffed. Come on. We're in the $ hit. Can it do any harm if he's at the heart of an organised defence?
Have a word with yourselves !
paying a 35 year old 30 grand a week makes no sense! sol is selling his name not his football skills. we dont need big names, we need players of the game, dedicated players. we are alot better than you sol.
sol campbell is not just past it he is past being past it
He has bought one of the most beatiful houses in Northumberland, so it is no wonder he wants to work up here as well. I hope he get a job in the far south west of England so he has to sell up. (Yes I am jealous and I would buy it off him before his "interior designer" girl friend gets her hands on it)
agree with ben let the geezer rot. hes only after the doe and hes a has been. no money left graft for it then. football wages are shocking nowadays. they all have there head up there own asse look at marlon king the @#$%. sacked and paying for it lol you women beater up the toon forget sol
"The guys 35 years old, washed up and looking for a club "
Newcastle seem the logical choice then.
Or maybe the mighty 'ammers.
The guys 35 years old, washed up and looking for a club to grab that last bit of cash, do you really need him?????? , Wise up( EXCUSE THE PUN ) Newcastle, I don't think you do.
ASHLEY OUT. DONT LET THE PROSPECT OF NEW SIGNINGS SWAY YOUR THOUGHTS FROM THE CANCER IN OUR CLUB. HES GOING TO SELL THE NAME OF THE CLUB. FORGET ABOUT 20 MIL WAR CHESTS, SOL CAMPBELL ETC GET ASHLEY OUT NOW!
i can't see cousin Mike taking much of Campbell if he signs not like Notts County as the way he treated them is not fair and he should IMO be band for 2 seasons he's a conman had his day such as it was.UTM
let's give waddle and gazza a ring maybe they wld play for us ....holy cow we want to move foward not backward's. spend wisely coach and take us where we belong above those sunderland scum in the prem.
typical another has been trying to get money out of the toon, coz no one else wants him, enough cockney muppets been in toon,go and join chelsea pensioners from roytheboy
Tell him to go jump, He snubbed us at the beginnning of the season for what he thought would be better things at Notts!!!
He will just go the same way as Owen if we sign him
Grass isnt always greener, is it Sol?????
we need players to go up but sol baby needs his pension dont get on the plane mate
Another has been in the Michael Owen vein !!
Nothing changes, will always walk away for the freshest smell of money. If Notts Co hold his registration then they should hold on to it.
Old man Sol , Time to hang up those boots and ......... " oh damn yeah supplies running low " ..... Will go leech some candy off Newcastle ........ Close to my new home .......... They been promised a cash injection , PATHETIC !!!!
come on campbell come and play for the magpies,
He'd do a good job here. He should have been here months ago. He made a mistake going to Notts Co, but so what. If he plays for us for a spell and we get promoted, everybody would be chuffed. Come on. We're in the $ hit. Can it do any harm if he's at the heart of an organised defence?
Perhaps the reason why he wants to play here is that he has recently bought a large property in Northumberland with his partner who is from this area and they are doing it up at the moment. He is probably looking to eventually retire here.
