Championship - Campbell admits Newcastle appeal

Eurosport - Fri, 30 Oct 13:01:00 2009

Sol Campbell has set tongues wagging by admitting he is attracted by the prospect of a move to Newcastle.

2009-2010 Notts County Sol Campbell - 0

The former England defender is currently embroiled in a legal wrangle after walking out on Notts County just one game into his career with the League Two side.

Campbell is unable to sign for another club until the transfer window opens in January, but it appears Newcastle are high on the list after confirming he has spoken to the Magpies.

"I have been approached by several clubs, and yes, it is correct to say that Newcastle are one of them," Campbell told ESPN.

"People might be surprised to hear me say that I would be very interested in a move there, but I have my reasons.

"Also, Newcastle are a big club and could be heading back to the Premier League. It appeals.

"I am training every day with Arsenal, feel fit, as fit as ever, and now I really need some matches. But to sort out the mess at Notts County, a Football League tribunal seems to be the only way out."

  1. what an absolute load of n obs on here....no-one knows what is going to happen, once again paper talk has everyone jumping up and down...have you lot not learned anything, it's toon baiting time again....
And where the hell has it been said he will get thirty grand a week? Do you honestly believe that fat mike would fork out money like that after he has had to slash the wage bill by getting rid of good decent players, prem quality players may i add, just to go and get a 35 year old who would be lucky to last a season and spend 1.5 million in wages on him....grow up.
If, and thats a big IF, Campbell does arrive at ST JAMES PARK (and always will be) he would be an asset for Taylor and Colo, because, contrary to believe as one person has posted on here, taylor does not have the experience to cope with these wily old forwards, as shown last year.
I believe we will go back up. And i say get as many people in as possible, because at the moment, we have one of the smallest squads in the championship.

  2. He'd do a good job here. He should have been here months ago. He made a mistake going to Notts Co, but so what. If he plays for us for a spell and we get promoted, everybody would be chuffed. Come on. We're in the $ hit. Can it do any harm if he's at the heart of an organised defence?

Have a word with yourselves !

I hope he get a job in the far south west of England so he has to sell up. (Yes I am jealous and I would buy it off him before his "interior designer" girl friend gets her hands on it)

  20. Perhaps the reason why he wants to play here is that he has recently bought a large property in Northumberland with his partner who is from this area and they are doing it up at the moment. He is probably looking to eventually retire here.
