A dreadful error from Queens Park Rangers keeper Radek Cerny gave Leicester City a 2-1 win at Loftus Road that put the Foxes second in the Championship, level on points with leaders Newcastle United.
The Czech (pictured right) played an inexplicable pass straight to Matt Fryatt (pictured left), who coolly finished past the former Tottenham man to get his second of the night, overhauling Adel Taraabt's opener.
The on-loan French-born Morocco international, who had an outstanding first half but all-but disappeared in the second, put the hosts ahead with a well-placed shot.
But for all their free-flowing football Rangers could not create as many chances as Nigel Pearson's battling, counter-attacking side, who ended a three-match winning streak for the west Londoners and extended one of their own.
An even first half ended one apiece after goals that typified the approach of both sides.
QPR's passing, technical game focused on the dribbling talents of Taraabt and the powerful running of Jay Simpson.
They took the lead on 33 minutes when Tottenham-owned Taraabt sent a cool low shot into the bottom left after a one-two with Simpson on the edge of the box.
But otherwise they created few clear-cut opportunities, despite some lovely touches from Taraabt in particular.
The Foxes, meanwhile, were direct but more threatening, with Martin Waghorn twice making Cerny save after counter attacks, and having a goal disallowed for offside.
Their approach saw them level four minutes after Rangers' opener, when Dany N'Guessan sent an inch-perfect cross from the left that Fryatt headed into the bottom corner to end his five-match scoreless run and make it eight goals for the season.
The visitors started the second half in superb fashion, bullying QPR and barely giving Taraabt a sniff.
N'Guessan headed over at the far post after being found by a searching Richard Wellens ball, while for Rangers Buzsaky's low shot beat Chris Weale but went just wide.
Then came Cerny's moment of madness.
On 64 minutes, and without any pressure or necessity, he attempted to play the ball out to Peter Ramage but instead handed it to Fryatt, who needed no invitation to sprint goal-wards and place it to the right.
While that strike was down to an individual error, Leicester really should have put the tie to bed but Wayne Brown was denied a headed goal when Simpson got the faintest of touches to his flick after a Paul Gallagher corner.
Weale made a heroic double-save from Routledge and Simpson, getting a nasty cut above his eye in the process, while Buzskay spooned over when he was found unmarked on the edge of the box by an excellent Routledge cut-back.
Rangers huffed and puffed but Leicester were in ultra-defensive mode, getting men behind the ball and wasting seconds by taking it to the corners as often as possible.
The late introduction of Patrick Agyemang for the now-anonymous Taraabt added some physicality to QPR's desperation, but the Foxes held on for the win that takes them behind leaders Newcastle on goal difference, although the rest of the Championship plays on Saturday.
QPR, on the other hand, sit a point outside the play-off zone although will have a game in hand by the end of the weekend.

Richie...........I doubt Sunderland will be recalling the 19 year old Waghorn...... and I DOUBT Man City will be recalling the 19 year old McGivern. The ONLY two players we have on loan. We've got more players out on loan. SO as an informed football fan what your actually saying is that "LEICESTER LOOKED GOOD..................................................U TTER WAFFLE.......................................... and BOOM "
LEICESTER looked good ..............BUT like QPR they are only looking good coz of their ON-LOAN players.............IF any of them are rcalled by their club then....................BOOM!!!
liegertwood was supposed to be the holding midfielder but he cant do that job, he keeps going way to far forward and it looked like stewart could not be bothered, he was really rubbish last night

Fantastic game, good advert for the championship and a great win for the foxes, didnt think we would win this one after the form QPR have been showing, but going 2nd in the league even just for over night is brilliant, Foxes are back after there season out last year.. who knows what'll happen by the end of this season, typical championship close every year and this ones no different..Well done lads, keep up the good season,
foxes are flying are you watching forest
usual QPR problem inconsistancy you only get to the premiership by winning your home matches and picking up odd points away leicester look like a promotion bound team good luck to them
Look out the Foxes are about now!
@william.vaughan: Well done stating the bleeding obvious. Are you Paul Parker in disguise?
cerny is QPR weak link good luck to leicester
On tonight's showing, Leicester would have a better chance of Premiership survival than QPR.
