Blackpool legend Jimmy Armfield is to have a statue erected in his honour at Bloomfield Road.
The Blackpool Supporters Association have set about raising £100,000 needed to complete the statue, that will be situated outside the West Stand.
It is the latest in a long-line of honours for Armfield - following on from the renaming of the South Stand and an OBE - but he remained modest, telling the Blackpool Gazette: "I feel quite humble about it and, I must be honest. I will be very proud to see it, as I am with the stand, as Blackpool is my team and my town.
"It is nice to think anything I have done has been appreciated, all people think like that."

I was thinking of that classic photo of Armfield with his arm around Alf Ramsey's shoulder at the final whistle on the bench, at Wembley, 1966, Bryan N.
I recall when Jimmy had the opportunity at the peak of his career to join Man.U. and turned it down prefering to play out the rest of his career with his home town club...
LOYALTY ! Contrast this with the mercenary wanderings of the likes of Michael Owen.
Good Luck to u Jimmy...THE ORIGINAL OVERLAPPING FULLBACK !
Agree - a great gentleman and a well deserved honour. However, I thought he played in WC 1962 - not 1966!
I can't think of any Blackpool player since the 19th. century who deserves this honour more than Jimmy Armfield. In common with the supporters behind the fund raising to fund the statue, it is about loyalty. Full marks to everyone involved in this. With the World Cup coming up next year, it is very timely that a player who figured in England's finest footballing achievement should be commemorated outside Bloomfield Road.
