All the reaction following Saturday's matches in the Premier League - including Sunderland manager Roy Keane's confession that he is not sure whether he is the right man for the job after the 4-1 defeat at home to Bolton.
Sunderland 1-4 Bolton Wanderers
Roy Keane: "I ask myself every single day if I am the right man for Sunderland. I asked myself this morning and I said that I was. Tomorrow morning if the answer's no we will have to look at it. I have to be honest in my assessment. It's not about what's best for Roy Keane. It's Sunderland Football Club. I might wake up on Monday morning and think I'm the right man. On Tuesday it might be different. I'm the manager of this football club and ultimately I'm responsible and I've never shied away from that. That's part of being a manager and that's why I take full responsibility for today and the run we're on and everything else."
Gary Megson: "There's no secret and the only thing we're doing differently that we weren't doing beforehand is scoring goals. Our performances are not much different except in terms of confidence. When we score goals all the other aspects of our game come to the fore and people start to realise what we've got ... [Johan Elmander] scored two fantastic goals and had one kicked off the line so I'm really pleased with him. People have focused on the fact that he hasn't scored enough goals but his performances have always been really good."
Aston Villa 0-0 Fulham
Martin O'Neill: "I think from the outside it is easy to throw at us that we have choked but I don't believe that. We went into the game full of confidence and with our hopes high after the previous two games. It is tough. Fulham were cock-a-hoop after their draw at Liverpool, played the same system, and it was tough for us to break them down. But as regards choking, I do not accept that. Every game is hard and we are not brilliant enough at the moment to steamroll teams but we are doing fine."
Roy Hodgson: "We are having an impressive sequence of results and it is down to the discipline and hard work we are showing. I thought in the first half we did quite well in terms of passing the ball around and were not just defending. We were under siege a bit in the second half, the most we have been for a while, and Villa threw everything at us in that period."
Stoke City 1-1 Hull City
Tony Pulis: "When you go a goal down in the Premier League it is very difficult to come back. I was pleased with the character of the lads in the second half, their effort and commitment was first class. In the final third at times we need that little bit more to open teams up. But it is a good point, we are building, the transfer window opens in four weeks' time and we will be trying to do some business."
Phil Brown on Stoke's penalty: "We've been robbed by a poor decision, in my opinion. It wasn't a spectacle by any stretch of the imagination. But we came in 1-0 up - I said the first goal in today's game would be important and it should have been enough to win it - but we were a little bit undone by a dubious decision. It was a very theatrical dive. You have to be 100 per cent right when you make decisions like that and I don't think you can be in that situation."
Middlesbrough 0-0 Newcastle United
Gareth Southgate: "It was very much a point gained, a hard-earned point, but one we certainly deserved. We had the majority of the game, certainly in the second half - it was pretty much one-way traffic for long periods of the second half. We allowed them a few breaks and they had a chance near the end which we shouldn't have allowed them to have, but I am very pleased with how we played. Sometimes you draw a game and you are disappointed with the performance, but I thought bar the finishing touch, we had pretty much everything today."
Newcastle assistant manager Chris Hughton on Obafemi Martins's furious reaction to being substituted: "You want nobody to be happy to be taken off, but any issues that way are always dealt with in-house, and that's always the correct way to approach it, always ... On the back of last week, what we wanted to do was keep a clean sheet. We felt we had enough in the team to score us a goal here."
Wigan Athletic 2-1 West Bromwich
Steve Bruce: "We have to thank our goalkeeper (Chris Kirkland) - he was fantastic - and in my eyes is one of the best goalkeepers in the country if not the best. With his fragile back we have decided to put the reins on him and keep him fresh. That's why we have changed his training regime. He was one of the old-fashioned types who just wanted balls blasted at him from six yards. He was a workaholic. He would be on the pitch at 9am and still there at 2pm. That work left him a bit stiff."
Tony Mowbray: "I thought we played OK today, the balance of the team was fine. We created more than enough chances to win the game but ended up losing it. Generally week-in, week-out we are better than the opposition on the balance of play. Yet football is about being clinical in both boxes. We have got to keep going. We have what we have - but we paid a heavy price in this game."

Keano's a good manager, definately needs a good team though to prove himself he could turn sunderland into a great team but managers now days don't have a good lifespan if there having a bad spell.
hey u want a laugh...ITV ...Leeds the mighty leeds are not exactly living the dream now are they

Erm no, i am studying for my Ph.D. actually; but even if i was on benefits, how dare you infer that the unemployed or disabled have nothing better to do than post comments on message boards. The only reason i am getting negative feedback is because i was man enough to disclose who i support; you lot ought to grow up. I re-state, look at Keane's record in the transfer market, it is appalling and if i am so wrong, how is it that a vast majority of Sunderland fans want Keane out! IHonestly, people on here need to buy a dictionary and look up the word 'debate'.
keane is operating at the highest level now as a manager
he is failing and he think profond comments justify his failure
he has no loyalty for sunderland
and is planning his escape
bet the dogs are getting a right shouting at!
tasdeon
Have you heard yourself?
I will comment on who and what i like; you tell me to stop poking my nose in other clubs affairs - what are you doing then you idiot. My criticism was constructive and fair and we are debating sunderland and roy keane NOT Newcastle United and their shortcomings. While i am here, your supporters were a disgrace against Milan; showing total and utter disrespect to footballing greats such as Kaka and Ronaldinho. If i had a choice between Sunderland and Portsmouth being relegated, i would choose your 3rd rate teensy-weensy club every time.
philo im a bloke
are u a potato picker too
like u im waiting for my dinner
my wifes making mine
hav u hired a rent boy in to @#$% your salad?
peter s ,,, i think you are the thick one ,,,,,mind you there our some more cameron , markpetbrands to name a few total morons who no nothing of football so go play with your dollies and dont be naughty as mummy will smack you ,,,you brain deads , this is a football cgat for football thinking fans ,,,,
cameron i think you should look at your own team first the @#$% you have , two class players givens ,and martins ,the rest secound rate players owen how much and always sick , of the two clubs i think your team will be relegated , and remember sunderland beat you , and last season derby got the only win against your @#$%,so stop spouting about keane and look at your own mess ,,,,,,,, pompey fan
Peter, us Paddies would rather stay in England and milk all the money you twats are willing to give for doing sweet F.A.! And Mags what's a bird doing on a Football forum anyway? Haven't you a Sunday dinner to be getting ready for the lads in your house?
Roy will leave because he cant get any players to go to that shithole up there.
The players he brought were not his choices.
Beggars cant be choosers.
comment 40 : - Keane is an appalling manager ?
I guess you're right - to take the team from third bottom of the championship after 9 games and end up winning the same league the same year, going up to the premier league as champions and keeping them there the next year - that really is an appalling record considering it was a sunderland team he had to work with isn't it ?
Roy Keane came nearest to an indefinite ban (sine die as we used to call it in our amateur footy circles) for his horrendous arrestable assault on Haaland and its probably true that being in Ferguson's camp helped persuade the authorities not to impose a lifetime ban.I would hope that Roy Keane learnt from this - and developed a conscience, albeit of tiny proportion. I myself doubt if he ever truly regretted violently ending another player's career. You could say he damned himself with that tackle - who wants to put their trust in a criminal? Its a form of Joey Barton syndrome - the 'I'm going to be a good boy one day honest believe me but please let me break your leg first' kind of mentality.
The big question is - can Roy Keane take the positive things he has learnt from his playing days at Forest and Utd into management? I for one hope so because despite his past history I'd like to think football is big enough to take on the biggest moral challenges - who hasn't made mistakes in the past? but first let Roy Keane experience this current hell - his egotistical tantrums deserve to be purged in some form ...BUT give this so called bad man a chance, old testament beard and all,and you never know he may give some good back to football.
Alot of scumbags commenting here .The empire is long gone. The top 4/5 teams in england havnt many english players nor indeed managers .Go back to your housing estates low lifes .
I am so sorry for Obafemi. He is forever being substituted and yesterday he was man of the match for godsake! Despite being taken off after 65 minutes! It is so wrong cause he is so committed and energetic while that mercenary Owen just picks up his £110,000, whatever it is, as captain and secretly plots to leave in January. Good riddance user!
There is obviously a good reason for 'the legend' not to sign this contract; something is not quite right at the North East's smallest club. Personally, i think Keane is an appalling manager; i mean come on, let's look at his record in the transfer market for starters. £5 million for Chopra, £5 million for the truly awful Richardson, that job lot from Spurs, not to mention the spitter from Bolton, and to cap it all, that small fortune for the Premier League's worst goalkeeper (yes, even worse than Gomes!). He does not inspire the team when they need it most; he just stands there on the touchline glaring instead of shouting out guidance. He is constantly bemoaning his sides 'lack of good fortune' - that my friend is the easiest excuse in the book. The truth of the matter is this, Roy Keane has been found out for the inept manger he is; this is his team of never-weres and his naivety as a manager has been brought to the fore. Undoubtedly, he will walk, if he has any love for the fans he should walk because at the moment, Blunderland are in freefall and relegation is a real possibility. I am a Newcastle fan and i want both teams to stay in the Premier League because for my money, the Tyne-Wear derby is the North East's only true derby.
But still, after all that:
'Keano is a legend!'
Roy Keane is not doing well with his team. Cisse is like the only good player that Roy is using. Cisse has many skills and power. Even for a liverpool fan , I still like Cisse . Well he did play for Liverpool. He needs to think about the transfer market. He is lucky to still be in the premier League , last season they were so close to be getting relagated. They will have some tough times this season. We got to see them having more of the ball. If they play like this through-out the season they wont win anything , but a relagation award!. Roy Keane get some more good players in the Transfer Market , you`ve got one you need more to stay in the premier league. Now Roy Knows how hard the Premier league can be!. I will admit its tough for many teams to stay in. But you can change yopur formation , team or things like that. Roy needs to think about a lot , if he makes his team better , he will win more matches then they won`t have the troubke about being relagated.
Its ok guys!! Call me a Paddy !! Its music to my ears. Im a Paddy and proud. I wouldnt have it any other way and I love being reminded of my nationality!!
I see racism is alive and well in football , judging by the imbecile comments made by Neanderthals on this board. The beautiful game , my brown Irish @#$% it certainly is , not on the terraces for sure.
Seeing as Roy Keane is now a fan of the "Saddam Hussein" look, maybe the Sunderland fans should stretch his neck and get rid of the arse.
Why anyone ever rated him as a manager I dont know. Thick as a chinese lavatory!!
Thank god Keane is not a muslim, he would really get it in the neck from the closet @#$%,s in here.
Grow up its a game!!!
